Brought to you by the wonderful world of for-profit health care.

And if they continue to kill seniors, they might risk their bottom line with a $100k fine.

Strutz Strutz:
Horrible and unacceptable.

Yes, but also all too frequent. Especially seniors with dementia.

And people wondered why a nurse was able to kill so many people without detection.

A change of name would be in order...

Expendable nursing home
...or
Exterminate nursing home

This is tragic, no argument from me at all.

But does any province in Canada own and operate any such care facilities? If not then why the objection to private firms providing a service the government does not provide?

I don't know about the rest of Canada but here in BC if you want to operate a nursing home you'd better be able to speak Mandarin or Cantonese because they've bought most of the homes.

And yes in BC some facilities are now operated by the BC gov't because, the Chinese ownership much like the assholes in Ontario didn't feel it was necessary to treat their patients with the same care, courtesy, respect and compassion that they claim the offer to their own grandparents.

So much for the myth of the Chinese as a community caring for the elderly. That ship sailed in 1949 along with personal freedoms.

To my knowledge, all provinces own and operate facilitates something like this. They are also the first on the block for budget cuts, and outsourcing to private facilities And they also allow private only care facilities.

Not all of them are run this poorly, but it is a race to the bottom. My girlfriend is a manager at one of these privately owned facilities, and left another facility when a patient died when his powered wheelchair got stuck in the parking lot and he froze to death. They didn't clear the parking lot because budget reasons.

Well,
Don't think it's a "private vs. public" thing. It's a budget thing.

In Quebec, we had a lot of these stories on public elderly healthcare facilities. There was even a political debate a few years ago if it was affordable to give a second bath a week to them and the bureaucrats said it was not worth it since "they are not moving a lot anyway"...

It seems we periodically hear stories similar to this from various facilities in different provinces.

I'm sure there are many more stories we never hear. :(

I heard plenty when girlfriend used to come home and vent. The worst usually involved TFWs that were untrained, and couldn't care less about the patients, only the paycheque.
