You go sovop take lots of cartons of cigs to trade for fur or your gonna freeze, the Canadian and US forces have shit for extreme arctic wear, fake fur!

I spent many hours in airports with guys that were going to what they thought was a base in the arctic. The base was a hotel in town for one night and then 2 weeks in an iglu out on the tundra with the rangers.

Wasn't the age of the chassis, it was the mileage.

Canada goose parka-$1200.00
Sealskin mitts- 2 packs smokes
caribou bed mats-free
Fur aviator hat-priceless
no fog goggles-also priceless

minus 40 ambient is the normal high there jan and feb without the windchill.
They give the guys one day in town to get aquainted with the locals enough to know who to go to for their fur so they dont freeze.

You will like it and never regret going there.

I don't think I'd have the time to do one this summer before i'm deployed, but I'll think about doing it after my tour.

I trust you have ways to contact the most reputable sources for all the above-mentioned items?

I enjoyed it. It was a good challenge, especially using the old kit, but we did fine. You just have to pay attention.

You take everything in your parka,it has lot's of pockets for toothbrush and stuff, even if it means starting out at plus ten temps and packing it with you.
You allways expect your luggage to not show up.Nothing like getting dropped off at baker lake at 1 am and your the only one in the airport and town is a mile away and your alone.

And no luggage.

It's a little different for the troops. Their kit is on the same Herc, so if their ruck doesn't show up neither do they.
