She is just trying to cash in on the guy. If they had a child together, fine he pays for the child support that's all. There must have been a reason they did not get formally married, to me it sounds like she was a gold digging bitch, and that would be a good reason not to get hitched with her.

I think it should be like this across the board, if you want half of your spouses crap when you break up sign a marriage license. If he or she wont do it, then maybe you should think about your relationship together...

She's a gold digger. If she had asked for reasonable alimony, this wouldn't be so ridiculous, but 56 k per month is stupid. Plus the 50 mil. That's complete bullshit.

your right, but knowing Canada and our legal system, they will settle on a much more reasonable 10 million and 25K per month. After all, she 'needs' to be recognized doesn't she?

Well, guys, excuse me, but... if it would be like that in the rest of the country, why not in Quebec? If it would be like that if they were married, why not now? What is the difference between being married, or living in a common law relationship?
(Oh, for your info... if she had been loaded, and he would have been asking for this, I would have said the same.)

New Brunswick has something similar to Quebec I think, but I am not sure. Thats why I tend to get nervous when a woman has lived with me for more then 4 months. Married says you are willing to commit the rest of your life (at the time) to this person. Common law says, "meh Im too lazy and/or cheap to file for a marriage license."
I would say the same thing if it was some cheap prick trying to mooch off a wealthy woman.
