is that not a bit rash before we even speak with these people? What if these people are defectors of the tigers or are a mix of honest refugees and tigers?

If that is the case then as time consuming as it may be we could sort out the refugee tiger mess and gain some information out of tiger operatives in the process.

Your actions Korben are rash and bloody without any clear thought to the possible benefits of landing or the penalties in the international community for taking such clearly violent actions against possible innocents on the chance they may be something we have no rock solid proof of yet.

It would be the equivalent of Islam nations sinking incoming ships of people looking to come to their country because they may be Christian. It would be madness and it would be right of us to condemn them for such a crime.

But, since we don't want to become social pariah's throughout the civilized world we'll let them land, clean them up, ensure their health is taken care of, give them attorney's who we get to pay for, a nice place to live, money to spend, an immigration hearing and in a couple of months refugee status soon to be followed by citizenship.

Ain't it great to enter Canada illegally.

The fact is only the Tigers have the money for financing such things.

Send out some Asian RCMP officers to meet the ship before they reach sight of land, tell them their compass is broken and they've been traveling east the whole time and they should turn around and go in the opposite direction if they want to get to Canada.

Easy, intercept the ship, tell them they are not welcome and turn them away.

Allow the ship to land, confiscate the ship and all its cargo as proceeds of crime and put the Tamils in jail. Set the precedent.

Best suggestions yet. I'm thinking intercept the ship, give them food and water and tow them back out where they can ride the Pacific Current back to Asia.

Don't allow them to set foot on Canadian Soil. Then they become our responsibility. I think this is similar to how the US does refugees from places like Cuba. If they can touch US soil, they are good to stay. If they are intercepted before then, they are out of luck.

Isn't it shit that we can't stop them?

It's a national disgrace.

I wouldn't say we "can't" stop them... I'd say we "won't".

There are alternatives to allowing the ship to port.

The bolded part is a good idea, might actually be a deterrent.

Putting them in prison isn't, because then they get a hearing from and immigration adjudicator who decides since they don't have papers showing they are Tigers they must not represent a threat and lets them go. That's what happened with the last bunch.

I say build camps on Haida Gwaii, house them in tents and let them rot in the rain while the immigration machinery grinds on. And get new adjudicators that actually have the best interests of Canada at heart.

We can stop them and turn them back ... other countries have.
But the usual drill is... they will be housed in Vancouver for a few weeks.
given status... sent to Toronto where there are hundreds of other illegals and given start up allowance.. then permanent welfare and send for the wives and kids, gramma and grandpa. Then they will all be more than happy to demonstrate by blocking main roads and yelling about their rights.. Every thing will unfold as it should in the anything goes we welcome anyone with open arms Canada!
