That's exactly why the CRTC should be concerned about Net Neutrailty. Shaw already was caught throttling Skype when they first brought out their own IP based home phone. They will have no problem throttling Netflix in favour of their own (poorly done) equivalent.

If shaw wanted to increase their network efficiency, they could cache Netflix content on a server within their network. Shaw will say there is no difference between this and how phone companies won't charge you regular minutes when you call their customers, but it isn't true. This is anti-competitive, and the CRTC should spank them.

They always find a new way to make more money, they complain about rising costs still make hundreds of millions a year. Just another money scheme which the CRTC will ignore.

lol, no one saw this coming....

Kinda makes sense to make the Lines part of the Public Domain. Shaw, Telus, <anyone else> just pay a Fee to a Regulatory agency which Maintains and Upgrades the lines as needed. Then anyone of those Selling Access to Consumers can make all the Netflix, Skype, Facebook, yadda yadda ya clones they want.

I'm not really sold on that idea though. If such an agency didn't have a crystal clear mandate to maximize Bandwidth, Upgrade as Technology allowed new capability, and/or didn't simply get turned into a Revenue generator for Government, then it would Fail hard most likely.

Sasktel does a lot of expansion into no or little profit regions.
