well Ziggy, to be more correct, it isn't really a whole that gives us the aurora Borealis in the true sense. Just the convergence and divergence of the magnetic field at the polar regions. Thus allowing the charged particles from the solar wind to penetrate deeper into our atmosphere.

I and a few others who were in the arctic swear they make you have the most lucid dreams imaginable.
