Oh ye of little faith, you're too pessimistic. No country is stupid enough to launch nukes, except those two times in WW2. But!

Times have changed, I don't think the human race will go out as quickly as people think.

CommanderSock CommanderSock:
Bart, I wouldn't wish the USA be involved if I were a US citizen. This will weight heavily on the US taxpayer. This is a European matter, to be sorted out by Europe.

You mean just like how the Europeans sorted out Yugoslavia without the USA? Right.

CommanderSock CommanderSock:
If Europe cowers, then so be it. This is not America's war. America has learned hard through foreign intevention. Again, I re-iterate, let Europe sort this mess out, if they can't....Tisk Tisk!!

Georgia is a US ally. Also, the USA has a painful history of letting the Russians rape their way around Europe (Hungary and Czechoslovakia come to mind) and we'll be happy to go to war before we let a co**sucker like Putin raise the Iron Curtain again. That f*cker wants a war, he'll get it.

The US will not interfere too much.. Europe depends on Russia for fuel.. and Georgia although an ally is not that great a concern given the whole picture.. interesting as it is.

Chagrin Chagrin:
Goddamnit, Russia.

Do you all think there'll be a nuclear war?

I don't think they are bluffing. There doctrine has been since they can not counter the US ability to use precision munitions they in turn have cranked up production of small scale tac nukes. So we are not looking at city killers here but we are looking at nuclear weapons being used to counter conventional threats.

Georgia is very importent to the West it is the only freindly country in the caucases and Its the only country that are shooting at the russians And Don't give me that bullcrap that Russia isin't our enemy anymore Yes they are Their the only country with enough nukes that would possibly use them against the US Canada and Western Europe so we need to handle them.
But This has to be handeled descritly since the war in Georgia Might Spill over and Azerbajain might find an excues to attack Armenia with Russia and since Azerbajain is a Muslim Country Iran Might find an excuse to help them The US will get involved then and Iran will attack Isreal And Their is The Worst Case Scenario WW3

A return to a bipolar world order?

I'm not sure that's such a bad thing.

I am "Disgusted" with NATO at this point. We are NO different then the UN, sitting on our collective butts watching this small country (wanting to join us)get hammered and destroyed by Russia. IMHO, it's a shame and is going to come back to haunt us ALL. :x

Where's Don Cherry (that true Canadian Patriot), I'd like to hear his opinion on this, he LOVES the Russian's.

Jesus... lots of reading to do in those nuclear articles. Not a fan of that new Russian Tank either. 30hp per tonne at 50 tonnes suggests a crate with a 1500 horsepower. That thing must move. Plus the 125 mm main gun that also has the capacity to shoot missles.

As for Georgia... Whatever decision NATO makes regardign what to do, I hope its the right one. :s
