All of us know that, that's why the reaction. But the overall theme of the rant that the very concept of Royalty in this day and age is absurd, isn't. For stodgy old traditionalists and 9 year old girls who want to be princesses

Meh!!! before the war broke out many a lad including me dear ole Grand Dad sported a Hitler moustache and loved the nationalism he brought to the world wide depression.
You can't label them a nazi for at the time the dirty had not begun.
The Nazi Party were probably viewed by the Royals at the time as just some new commoner thing erupting in Germany.

Wasn't that Edward in that pic? He certainly was a Nazi sympathizer, as were many Brits before the war. I think Lizzie basically did whatever she was told to do. If the corporation ordered her to be a Nazi, she would have done that. But you can't have the head of state sympathizing with the enemy and keep his position, so "right old chap" we're anti-nazi now. And many people, especially Brits, conflate German and Nazi, so since she's of German origin, seems not so much of a stretch what he said. Nobody thinks she was a crypto-Nazi.

2Cdo 2Cdo: BeaverFever BeaverFever: Well you fired the first insult at me, See 2Cdo @ 2015-07-24, 18:35:52 ("guys like him").
And although I replied using the word "numbskull" (probably the first time in my life choosing that name) at least I stayed on topic. "Guys like him" is an insult? You were taking a shot at me saying "guys like" me hold 7 yr olds responsible for their actions but not adults doing more serious things.

Yes Edward was a believer in the nationalist socialist movement before the war, that's well documented. Whether or not that continued during the war years or not, that isn't. Its fair to say George VI was not, nor his wife, nor his daughter. Nor is it fair to call the Queen a Nazi (as Brand is suggesting) because of her uncles belief. I am related to the Viscount Rothermere, founder of the Daily Mail newspaper and supporter of appeasement, Nazi sympathizer. Doesn't make me a Nazi, nor my father who was named after him and who spent 5 years at war against them.

It's not that he was a Nazi that you should be ashamed of, but that you are associated with the Daily Mail. Guess they've just changed their stripes from Jew hating to Muslim hating.

Anyone in today's Britain should be much more ashamed of the genuine Nazis that immigrated there from the Muslim world and kept voting George Galloway into parliament.

genuine Nazis can't be Muslim, nor non-Aryan, much as they might wish to be.

And just because I'm not pro-Monarchy doesn't mean I'm a republican. Who wants a President that can do anything, just acknowledge an elected Governor-General as defacto Head of State, stay in the Commonwealth and keep the Queen on the coins...

Germany does that with their president. Parliament and what in our case would be provincial legislatures elect the prez in a secret ballot. That what you thinking of? If you mean elected by the electorate, I think it would give the prez, ie governor, too much political power to interfere with parliamentary affairs.

andyt andyt: genuine Nazis can't be Muslim, nor non-Aryan, much as they might wish to be. Oh really? Then explain the thousands of Albanian(good Muslims too), Croatian, Ukrainian and other non Germanic units in the Waffen SS. Nah they weren't good national socialists were they?

First reaction to this: Who is Russel Brand? So I looked him up on Wiki. Second reaction: Who is Oscar Brand?! Why is anything he says important?

One: he isn't important in the slightest, he's only notable for the depth of his social and class hypocrisy Two: he's merely getting called out for taking a cheap shot at someone who did something silly when they were seven years old
