But while the agency got more than 40,000 messages about the misleading and nuisance calls, the investigation found 96 per cent of them came through Lead Now, an organization that asked concerned voters to sign a petition.

In all, 39,350 of the more than 40,000 "communications" with Elections Canada were from people expressing "their profound dissatisfaction with inappropriate calls," the report said, and not from people who received the calls.

Bullshit leftwingers signing petitions .

I guess the opposition et al will be foaming at the mouth over this one. I guess it really does prove that this was nothing more than a media driven anti conservative story. I suppose all those who bought into it all, will not believe E.C. because the result doesn't suit their agendas. Wonder what Batman and Robin of the Ottawa Citizen will do now...

It's the biased CBC again, don't believe a word you read there.

$1:
One person has been charged with the misleading robocalls made in Guelph. Michael Sona's trial starts June 2 in Guelph
And of course this low level functionary took all this upon himself and had access to the Conservative data base to do it. Just as Nigel Wright acted alone, totally alone, and the flurry of e-mails he sent and received on the subject - don't look at the man behind the curtain.

I received a live call. During the 2011 election, the day before election day, I received a call from a call centre. She claimed to be from Elections Canada, and claimed my polling station was changed to Glenelm School. I told her "no it hasn't", it's still Lord Selkirk School, same as every election since I bought this house in 1990. I told her that I already talked to the returning officer for my riding, and have a copy of the list of polling stations. There had been changes since the last election, but not my polling area. Furthermore, I already voted at the advanced poll. At the time I was the immediate past president of the Liberal Riding Association, and helped the Liberal candidate. That's why I had all that. The caller only said "uh..."

After media reports of the investigation, I did report this to Elections Canada. An investigator did call me. My report did not come through any agency, I made the report directly to EC. The riding Elmwood--Transcona was under investigation before I made my report. The NDP candidate Jim Maloway is well known for complaining about absolutely every tiny little thing he could possibly complain about. He certainly wouldn't let something as big as this pass by. He did initiate it.

If it happens again, next election, we voters should expect arrests to be made.

The last run should at last be a warning.

You are obviously a media driven type with an anti-conservative agenda.

The law will be changed by then to make these sorts of things legal, and to strip Elections Canada of the ability to investigate it.

I can "out conservative" Jim Flaherty. Not to speak against the dead; I was hoping to debate him.

"legal"? And no ability to investigate? Um, yea, that is what the Harper's Conservatives are trying to do.

Yes.

http://www.parl.gc.ca/HousePublications ... &File=48#8

The whole problem with the Robocalls investigation was that the Chief Electoral Officer is forbidden from compelling testimony. Nothing changes that in the bill, and investigations into inappropriate calling are deferred to the CRTC.

$1:
The petition calls the Fair Elections Act an outrageous effort by the Harper government to fix the next election by disenfranchising Canadians.

Another person was, of course, not only charged but convicted of robocalls - Liberal MP Frank Valeriote.

It's the only conviction thus far isn't it?
