What the title doesn't point out is that this religious zealot, broke an exclusion zone regulation by bribing fishermen to take him there, went onto the island illegally which is off limits to the world and attempted to convert these primitive people despite the fact that they shot an arrow through his bible the day before they actually killed him.

Like it or not this guy is definitely in the running for a Darwin award.

Yeah, not much respect for others and far too much hubris led to this guy's demise. If the Indian and Bangladeshi governments, neither of which is known for their tolerance of minorities, choose to leave those tribal people alone and have enacted laws to protect them from outsiders then there's a message there to stay away.

I used to give them a bad time, like telling them I was already part of a denomination like the reformed church of Satan. Even tried an atheist argument on them once but they seemed to enjoy it too much. Then I started to feel bad for them and just started saying no thanks or didn't answer the door at all. Besides, the Mormon kids are always too polite and innocent-looking to be mean to them, and they do things like offer to shovel the snow or cut the grass if someone in the house isn't feeling good or is too old or whatever.

Live and let live, I guess, even if it's the most basic thing that most of the world just can't bring itself around to doing.

Some of these religious people , you really have to wonder about their mental health. This goes beyond the usual religious stupidity.

At least he was well aware of the likely outcome beforehand, his diary from the day before, after they first shot arrows at him and chased him back to his boat, seems to indicate he knew he’d probably be killed.

Like it or not this guy is definitely in the running for a Darwin award.

It's not only a Darwin award for the Chau, but he could have seriously harmed those living on this island if he had a simple cold or wasn't vaccinated.

People often forget that the biggest thing that harmed the natives in the Americas were measles, smallpox and other diseases to which they had zero immunity (some estimates put the death toll in the tens of millions after contact with Europeans).

I just say no too, but I knew a Brit who kept getting woken up at 9 a.m. on Sunday by the local Mormons in Japan, so he answered the door in his underwear and the missionaries got embarrassed and stopped coming.
