Point here ( in my humble opion) is are we allowing the cops free hand to kill people by tasering? Are people who are mentally ill, foreign or act out going to be subject of tasering? This has gone too far. Whether the man was immigrating or visiting is irrelevant. I dont see why he could not be restrained by the RCMP. I dont believe there is justification in tasering people. It is being used far too frequently.. I work in psychiatry and we restrain lots of people who are out of control and it is done in lots of cases by female nurses that are small in stature.. there is non violent crises intervention and methods of restraint that can be used and no-one has been killed by that... I am tired of police brutality and them getting off the hook at every enquiry.. enough is enough

First of all the number of people killed by taser is miniscule considering the number of times a taser has been deployed. Most of those who have died are as a result of things other than the taser itself. In the case of Robert Dziekanski, we have no idea why he died. The taser was not the cause of death.

More to the point, I’ve seen firsthand someone breaking a set of handcuffs (and both wrists and didn’t realize it) while high and then think nothing of throwing a couple of cops around the room for exercise.

Until we can diagnose remotely, I’d much rather see a cop with a taser control these people than see a cop with a gun or baton attempt to do the same thing. In fact people have reacted badly to being pepper sprayed or CS (tear gas) and died. I wouldn’t suggest we ban either of those if used in the right circumstances. Above all I don’t recommend hand to hand combat (police have minimal training) without knowing why a suspect is acting irrationally. That’s only going to lead to a lot of dead cops.

Restraining people in a controlled environment is not the same as doing it in the street, and there are certainly cases even in hospital where drugging or stunning is necessary. A diminutive five foot nurse is not going to go against a six foot man in full psychotic rage without serious assistance.

Calling what happened at the Vancouver airport police brutality is ignoring all the facts and lacking in all aspects of objectivity. In fact it displays an obvious bias against the police.

Brenda Brenda:
It was not murder. It was accidental death.
With your logic, a fork is a murder weapon. There must have been people killed with a fork.

Sorry but it is common knowledge that taser deaths occur when the subject seems to be agitated or appears to be under the influence of a drug..It's fact already.

The subject appeared to be in that state where a taser could and would possibly kill him. Despite that fact he had the sense to hold his hands in the air..A common "give up sign" the world over. He was murdered in cold blood. He was also swarmed (swarming is a tactic gangs use before they rape, punish or kill you)...Are ya blind Brenda, the bastards were caught on tape and believe me if the shoe was on the other foot they would be prosecuting not just the four killers but the people who gave them a ride ..the people who supplied the weapon..the people who gave to birth to them etc etc.

Accidental death would be the subject slipped and hit his head.Or the ceiling fell down. Can you imagine every criminal killer out there saying "It was an accident..I didn't mean to kill him or her" Give me a break.

This shit starts from the top and works it way down..this gives the perception to the killer cop that they can get away with murder and as they continue to get away with it it will continue to happen.

The police have a new toy talk about excited delirium.

Saying that ..there is a case where a cop killed someone on a balcony with a taser, apparently a big no no. The person fell off and died..so the taser didn't kill him, but the cop did commit suicide. That was a good cop , we don't here about him do we? Or this story? Why?

Because the name of the game is intimidation not policing.

This man could not be restrained by these 4 cops because they where scared of him before they even saw him.........they never used any common sense or logic just group thug tactics .... I would like to see how brave these HEROs are when they are confronted with true gang warfare on the streets of Vancouver.... No staple guns out there boys.....................

No, we in the MEDICAL community have new toy talk about excited delirium, but don't let the facts get in your way.

I will say the cops didn't go there with the intention of killing the guy but, according to reports from the other eye witnesses, they didn't do much to help him when he was down either.

I thought the same thing too until the testimony about Dziekanski snoring after he was handcuffed on the floor.

After extremely high stress the falling asleep part is not unusual within minutes of being subdued. It probably also had the tragic effect of putting the RCMP at ease with respect to noticing any adverse results from what just happened.

What I dont understand is in this age of heightened security in air port's where a toothbrush will get you searched that the only video they have is one from someones cell-phone.
Dont they have CC cams in that area and if so where are the video's?
