If they included provincial public servants these numbers would come down. At least here in Alberta, pretty much everyone knows it's far better to work for the private sector than the government.

$73,400 is the average?
I'd be interested in the breakdown of who was included and who wasn't...
...that's a lot of money when you consider it's and average!

In the mid-seventies I was employed by the Federal Government and for working approximately one hour a day I got payed almost double what any of my friends were making in the private sector, not even counting the perks. And wages are just the tip of this iceberg. What goes on behind closed doors is simply unbelievable at times. To this day I find it laughable when I hear federal or even provincial civil servants complaining about the cost of living or some such nonsense.

It’s not just the wage that’s better. Typically the public service has far superior job security, benefits and pension plans than you’ll find anywhere in the private sector. There is also a shorter work week and more paid holidays. And of course there’s the prospect of being promoted simply because you speak the right language.
I was a tradesman in the public service for nearly ten years. I was making almost three times what I made doing the same work in the private sector. Had I stuck around until full retirement I would have had one hell of a pension. Of course by that time I’d probably be a brain dead, drooling idiot believing that working 2 hours of a seven hour shift was being unreasonably over worked. And I most certainly would have retired a tradesman. Since I was raised, educated and trained in english I would never have made foreman no matter how much language training I took.
Don’t even get me started on the f@#$%^g union!

This would be because most of Canada's best paying private sector jobs are no longer in Canada.

Most public servants could never work in the private sector, once they have the notion that 2 hours is a full day they are useless in the real world. Could you imagine if we fired all the lazy asses in the Gov't the UI claims would be historical.
