Alta_redneck Alta_redneck:
Look at her doing exactly what she said she'd never do, buy an election.

A lesson Ontario learned. The NDP branded itself "the worker's party" but proved they were the insurance industry's party and of other corporate interests after getting elected.

I have a problem with government subsidizing this type of enterprise. First of all it does NOT contribute to the GNP.Secondly the owners seem to have a problem paying their taxes yet they insist on government monies. The NDP was elected as a Government as a protest due to Conservative political sense of entitlement. We want good Government. We want responsible government. We do not want socialist social engineering. FIX THE HEALTH CARE SYSTEM. FIX THE EDUCATION SYSTEM.

It should be a big 'No'. The City contributed to Edmontons' arena, but they are part owner in the facility. The province gave no money. Same treatment should apply to Calgary.

Maybe he means fix them by privatizing them?

Oxymoron. You can't fix those by privatizing them.

Not an oxymoron at all - doesn't fit the definition. Many people believe these systems are better run privately. It's a matter of opinion, since both approaches have pluses and minuses.

Yep.

That was one of the few things the PCs did right - let cities and private industry fund arenas, not the province.

If the province wants to kick in money for something like this, it should be for improved roads/LRT - like they did in Edmonton where they gave $498 million for the still unopened Metro Line - not the building itself.

Let Calgary fund it if they feel it's necessary, but funds shouldn't come from provincial coffers.

I don't think so, as for profit healthcare and for profit education rarely deliver effective services. There may be opinions on delivering it, but metrics indicate better overall outcomes when they are government delivered.

What's the last major project that Calgary had to pay for?

Everything sports related has had public funding because of the Olympics.

This looks out of place.
