Proculation Proculation:
personally I would decriminalized it and only give a big fine. The drunk driving cases are clogging the justice courts while there are much more relevant cases to be judged.

Really? I supppose drunk drivers killing people with a ton or so of car shouldn't be a criminal offence eh?

Pffff, EB, of course not. Innocent accident! You should be able to drive drunk, no matter what you do to someone elses life! As long as we can drink our booze and drive home (or wherever)!

I didn't say it should be accepted. I said it should not be a CRIME. Give a big fine and confiscate the car for some times.

Really? Driving drunk is tantamount to firing a shotgun down mainstreet. You really think that should be decriminalized? What makes it worse is that it's a choice, an easily preventable choice.

Nope, disagree. Jail and a fine and loss of car and driving privilege.

Until some drunk asshole kills your kid, wife, mother. Then you want him/her locked up for life, but hey, it's not a criminal offence anymore, so we can only take the car away and fine them...

Driving @ 200km/h is much more dangerous and it's not a crime.

Have you ever been to a court ? 75% of the causes are drunk driving. It takes almost 2 years to pass in court for other crimes. If drunk driving was not a crime, it would help A LOT to resolve the problem of time in courts.

What makes you think driving 200kph is not a crime or is inherently more dangerous than driving drunk?

Killing someone while driving recklessly or under influence is still a crime.

Skewed logic Proc.

If the courts and lawyers got off their arses and stopped dicking around with CC 251 etc, people would get convicted quicker.

What you see in the courts is lawyers milking the system and getting rich. Impaired driving is a cash-cow for lawyers.

Because it is not a crime... you only get a very big fine and loose your car.

Hit a car @ 200 km/h and hit a car while drunk but at a normal speed. Which one is more dangerous you think ?

Here's what I read from your postings:

It's bad that criminals clog up the courts for other criminals. Let's let a chunk of those criminals out then we can expedite the other criminals so we can have an empty courthouse for future criminals!

Fining and confiscation aren't great solutions. Judges need to factor in ability to pay as a condition for fines. Wait until you have a shitload of those hearings being scheduled by every last drunk facing a fine. Plus, do you confiscate the car if it isn't their's? Just wait until the wife petitions the court to have her (or even the husband's) back such that she can go to work, drive the kids around et cetera. Bring on a brand new glut of court time!

Also, you may wish to revisit the courts as pure speed MAY be sufficient grounds for a dangerous driving charge under the Criminal Code. I'm not too sure, but I think the previous case-law was overturned.

Or maybe an alternative could be, between 0.08 and 0.16, you get a fine and loose your car for some times and over 0.16, it's a crime.

If DUI is SUCH a big crime, most people with a car are criminals then. Personally, I don't know much people who never said "I don't have long to get to home", "I will drive slowly". I'm not talking about very drunk people but someone who took maybe 4 beers.

Here's one.
I DO NOT drive when I drank alcohol. EVER. Easier, I DO NOT drink when I have to drive home (or anywhere). EVER.
