Took Poli Sci 101 at the U of C back in 1989 during my rather sad attempt at doing university. The prof was the one and only Tom Flanagan of Reform Party fame. Seemed like an OK guy for the most part, no where near the monster he was made out to be. He had zero patience for anyone talking in the class while he was speaking, which was terrific because I didn't pay for school just to listen to a couple of dimwit bros go on about how drunk they got the night before while the prof was teaching.

Anyhoo, Flanagan said the exact same thing about politicians reaching the highest levels. Believe you me right now, I was no where near as cynical and awful back then as I am now. But when Flanagan said the "cream rises" spiel the first thing that popped into my still-innocent brain at the time was "so does pond scum". I regret not saying it out loud to him just to see his response. He liked good debates so who knows, he might have enjoyed the moment.
