$1:
A neighbour, Howard Sirota, who lives across the street, said hundreds of city, state and federal officers, a helicopter and a SWAT team descended on Slater's house Monday before he was arrested.

That's a bit much, ain't it...

The cops were probably prepared for the worst-case scenario of a disgruntled employee. Don't forget that just last week, about a hundred miles from NYC was where the fellow got fired and then killed eight of his coworkers.

So, yes, it looks like overkill because Slater didn't resist. But had Slater opened fire on the cops you'd right now be thinking they had been properly prepared.

Now that we know everything Slater seems mostly harmless. The police didn't know that the day this happened.

True. Good point...

Every petty embezzler and scam artist can potentially open fire on the cops.

They still usually get quietly picked up by a single pair of police officers.

What this guy did was pretty extreme, and he showed himself to be in a state of extreme agitation. The cops wouldn't know what the fuck they were dealing with, and I don't blame them for being cautious. Hundreds of ocifers sounds a bit extreme tho. Just surround the house and phone him to give himself up. Which he did.

Probably what happened was about 50 cops were assigned to this and another couple hundred showed up as 'backup'...which is a nice way of saying 'spectators with badges'.

Given that it's NYC and there's tens of thousands of cops in a very small area then bringing together a couple hundred for an hour or so had little impact on public safety.

That's not on the fellow, that's about JetBlue's response, which I personally find awesome...

They only needed two to do the actual arrest, the rest were there to fight each other over jurisdiction.
