ridenrain ridenrain: I was wondering if Dr. Pepper was back in town. TattoodGirl: Big dilema with getting that protest media coverage While violence does get a camera, it turns a protest group into criminals or terrorists. A lot of folks tried some very creative things to get news and it seems that the media often needs to be in or sympathetic for that to work. I thought it was 'Sgt Pepper'!

Canadian_Mind Canadian_Mind: TattoodGirl TattoodGirl: We didnt get coverage of any protests here, but we were there, I guess thats free speech in this country. do You think BC isnt part of Canada? shouldnt the rest of Canada be privy to what goes on in BC? Good or Bad? Absolutely! But the country doesn't deserve to be fed mindless drivel, the country deserves to hear and see news it will actually care about. In this case the protests are the mindless drivel the country doesn't want to hear about. If the country did want to hear about the protests, someone, somewhere, would be broadcasting news focused on it. But instead every news agency in the country is focusing on the relay, and all the positives about it, cause everything about the relay emphasizes Canadian values, and as such is something the country wants to hear about. The protests are merely an insignificant inconvenience that NO ONE gives a rats ass about. so you dont want to hear about Free Speech being killed in BC? Good to know.

I dont agree with violence...I believe that protesting in a non-violent way is the only way for a voice to be heard. Unfortunately, your media will only view violent protests. At least I will not be sitting back and letting my rights be trounced on...if you think that is violent, then thank our government for bringing in 'designated free speech zones'...I will be sitting in the open with a sign and will not engage with police...they will have to remove me.

TattoodGirl TattoodGirl: so you dont want to hear about Free Speech being killed in BC?
Good to know. Not really. I can still call my mother and she can say whatever she wants politically to me with no risk of being arrested, whatever she says. Seems like free speech to me.

It's the protesters right to protest, and everyone else's rights to ignore em. Never did I tell a person to shut the fuck up. Edit - Just to add, I think I failed to inform you of the biggest reason why I personally don't care about the protesters or there message: It is all politics. It is not my job as a member of the military to debate politics. Hence why I don't care. So thank you for pulling that card.

You have been saying that the whole time , you can get your info from your mom, but You dont want to hear it from the media, you dont want to see it from protesters, you just dont do it so bluntly..... Just what is your opinion of Freedom of Speech in Canada? and should free speech zones be instituted in BC during the games? and does this infringe on our constitutional rights?

I've been trying to explain why I feel the media isn't spreading the protesters message across the country. My belief is that people simply don't care, not that anyone is telling people to shut up. As for my mother, your damn right I get my info from her. You know what critical information I glean from her is? The weather, how her fiance is treating her, and when the last time she went sailing was. I look to the media to tell me what significant events are going on in the country, and they do a damn fine job. As for my opinion of freedom of speech in Canada, basically it exists. but like all things political there is always nuances and exceptions, which I can't be bothered to keep track of. What more needs to be said?

Your talking politics, my job isn't to talk politics, especially on sensitive issues. I don't plan on answering your last two questions cause I have no more to say about freedom of speech than what I already said.
