Wow, so perpetuting the current system is a good thing (from what i'm gathering) How is it good that while a ridiculously small percentage of a population walk away with 70% of it's income while the majority struggle to get a flu shot. Fuck that. Capitalism will not die, it's too entrenched, but helping the people and the consumers that make it run should be priority one (as Obama is doing) instead of the rich assholes that got us here.. and Frankly, into the former Johnson administration as well... I hope every single one of Obama's policies in the story works with flying colour and we finally see a bit of equality in the world...

WASHINGTON - In the space of a few months, the United States of America has been transformed from the most entrepreneurial society on Earth to one so state-directed that even the Europeans are raising their eyebrows.

That's scary !!

I don't understand. Planned economy was tried and it always failed !

How can the biggest capitalist state on Earth thinking that THIS TIME it can work... 8O

I like Obama for his social liberalism but I would not have voted for him because what is happening now is exactly what I thought would happen if he became President.

Its the Europeans who are pushing for more regulation Barack is bending over to them. Sarkozy and Merkel wouldn't shut up at the G20 about their desire for a "global" regulatory body and China wants its global currency and is demanding that western governments create an institution that can dish out stimulus packages without congressional or parliamentary approval, the whole world is marching left.

Nonsense. Obama has been a leftist through the whole campaign. If you didn't notice, you weren't listening.

Shnek, you are seething with class envy. Care to tone it done a bit? It's not very becoming.

John McCain would have done the same thing. The only difference would be that, instead of calling out AIG executives for giving themselves bonuses, he'd let them walk and do everything in his power to defend it.

I hate that rhetoric that "aaah but McCain nananana". I'm talking about Obama. The two choices were Obama and McCain but you can be for none.

Actually, I don't think the republicains would have done the same. McCain was against the TARP but changed is mind for political reasons. Obama, it's in his ideology to control and intervene in the economy.

How do you know? He wasn't elected. Do you have a parallel universe viewer that you've been holding back from the world?

bottom line, the argument about as to how far government intervention should go regarding the economy will always be up for debate- its part of what separates the right from the left in the political spectrum. However, I will say that a more socialist approach and state involvement can be beneficial to America in times of recession because it can help redistribute capital to help average citizens who can't afford common living get back on their feet. I also think that during times like these government involvement is necessary in the economy. Of course when the economy is prospering, capitalism tends to keep the economy rolling but in the state that America is in, they needed a Democrat and Obama seems to have some good policies in regards to the economy

So what are you suggesting then?

Let the businesses fail, like AIG and GM?

Or keep writing them blank cheques and pray?

Can you pinpoint the actual cause of the disease or is it your contention that capitolism has been a success?

I hear what your saying, but pointing out the obvious then leaving it open really serves no purpose.

Furthermore the article actually states that he articulatd all of this during the campaign.
$1:
"There is no question that both Mr. Obama and the American people want America to move in a more progressive direction," contends Faiz Shakir, of the Center for American Progress, a political advocacy group whose agenda is virtually synonymous with the President's.

After all, "Barack Obama is not proposing anything that he hid from the American population during the campaign. He articulated every single one of these policies."

So really, if you supported him before was it becaue your girlfriend likes him or because you actually understood what he intended to do?

Mr_Canada Mr_Canada:
The USSA has an awesome ring to it.

Really? Sounds to me like another crack in the Liberty Bell.
