BeaverFever BeaverFever:
Horsehit.
Another gem from the "only the White race can be good guys crowd."

The only requirement to be a good guy, is to do good things.

The use of violence and terrorism while maybe effective, is not a good thing to do.

Feel free to remember Mr. Mandela as an effective leader, remember him as a popular head of state, remember him as someone that changed the world.

But don't try and rewrite history to make him into a good person that did good things.
~
Just as a side note, who here has studied the life of Nelson Mandela? Take it down a level, who here has even just read the wiki on Mandela and South Africa?

If you haven't at least read a recounting of his personal history and the history of his nation but you have made a comment that he was a great man or a good guy, then maybe you should ask yourself if your statement means anything.

Wow. Within the first few posts in this thread we get to see the exact kind of injustice Mandela fought against.

Was he perfect? Of course not. But there are too few people like him in this world and we are all poorer for his having passed. How many people would repay hated and injustice with forgiveness and love?

RIP.

That`s not happening there, and you can keep the semi-literate nazi prick here

Oh but there is a nice froth working up there that Xort would fit rather well into.

Not about Mandela, but about how things will likely get worse in RSA now that he has finally passed. He was a stabilizing factor in South African society and kept the ANC moderate while he was alive.

Always fun to get yourself into a good froth though in a RIP thread.

Mr. Mandela deserves the full credit for keeping the radicals and crazies in the ANC suppressed and for preventing a Cambodia-like scenario from unfolding in SA after apartheid ended. A lot of that was also due though to the fact that the whites are so heavily armed that any Mugabe-like attempt to persecute them would have resulted in a counter-revolutionary bloodbath being inflicted upon the blacks.

SA economic collapse and problems with endemic criminal violence, especially the rape epidemic inflicted on SA women (black and white alike), are not Nelson Mandela's personal fault. But more could have been done to prevent both from erupting. Mandela probably just didn't have the political clout to stop the post-apartheid negatives from occurring, unless he'd taken on the mantle of a dictator instead of a parliamentarian. Overall he probably was the right man in the right place at the right time. Mandela's legacy is intact. South Africa's history is still to be written and it will always be questionable how long they will manage to stay on the course Mandela set them on.

You tell me, as you see to be the only one getting indignant and wanting to create something out of nothing [huh]

Mandela was controversial, and like everyone else a mix of angel and devil. This is a perfect place to discuss the man and his legacy

One of the better things Mandela did, when he got released from prison, was that he disassociated himself almost completely (and eventually divorced) his wife Winnie. If there was a genuinely rotten person out there it was Winnie Mandela. Corrupt, brutal, murderous, and definitely among the worst of the radical wing of the anti-apartheid movement. That Mandela kicked her out of his life altogether, and took away most of her political power in the process of jettisoning her, showed the better side of his character.

Once again, an indispensable man at a crucial historical moment.

I ain't indignant because I don't really care what a bunch of extremist talking heads opt to the second some guy dies. Mandela was controversial for those who weren't too keen on equality and such which is why Xort rolled in. Mind you certainly had issues with his pointing out the controversial points.

Maybe you ought to make up your mind.

He spent 27 years in prison for his crimes. Sentenced to hard labour in the rock quarries. When release he could have continued his earlier attempts to bring about black equality through violence but didn't. In 1990 he was release a different man, a man of peace and reconciliation who brought about the end of apartheid and elected president in 94. He served only one term and stepped aside not looking for power but happy with his attempt to raise the Rainbow Nation.

Is South Africa perfect today? no! but it is a young nation, just a teenager in the world. Hatred still exsists both with the whites and the blacks, no one group is to blame. I have read a number of misinformed ignorant posts in this thread.

But don't take my word for it I only live in Pretoria and am preparing for the State Funeral.

And that is why he was great. He could have walked into that stadium and demanded blood. But he only demanded equality.
