wait, you mean... the inukshuk on the logo, and the native-designs on the hockey jersey weren't enough to quell protests...? oh well... does that mean we can go back to a simple red maple leaf now?

Is that not what the Olympics are? A international political soapbox. All the power to them, I think they should have more protests, eventually everyone will get pissed off and they will shit can the whole idea.

This will pull the professional agitators out of the woodwork. They will show up and demonstrations will turn violent giving both first nations people and Canada as a whole a black eye.

With around 15,000 police and security there plus the army plus the navy, they had better bring more than a few friends to the protest.

You see the problem with the military going is, what the hell are they going to do really? Keep people from wandering onto the track?

All the millions they were given and they still plan on disrupting the games. And they wonder why people are racist.

Sounds like they are just carrying on their proud tradition to pretend to cooperate to get as many hand-outs and concessions from the government as possible then, money in pocket, reniging on everything they promised and cry "woe is me" to attract more attention so that the government will feel shamed by human rights groups to give them more hand-outs and concessions...
Whoa... where does this endless circle end???

Their ability to disrupt will be limited. If they stick to established "free speech" zones they'll be fine. The security contingent will be huge; as soon as they present a threat they will utterly and instantly crushed. I don't think the cops will be so worried about the natives as other elements exploiting native unrest for more sinister and violent purposes.

If the Natives ARE going to protest, they should take positive advantage of the international interest and media that will be in Vancouver. This would be a good time for the Natives to protest as legitimate claimnants for a change; rather than acting like a bunch of hard-ons. They might just get some folks on their side for a change.

Guy_Fawkes Guy_Fawkes: You see the problem with the military going is, what the hell are they going to do really? Keep people from wandering onto the track? I dunno about infantry, but those in my trade would have the entire valley from Hope to Pemberton constantly under surveilance. I expect the cops would be doing most of the face-face interactions, and the infntry, arty, engineers, heavy armour, etc. would drop the hammer where neccisary if shit hits the fan. Remember the Oka crisis? Military didn't arrive until after people were shot. Would probs be the same for any protest in Vancouver, at which point in time whomever the protesters are would be universally detested world-wide, and we'd be in the right to detain them, or even kill em when neccisary.

I hope they do, tick off Canadians who are forced to pay billions in taxes a year that go to Natives. Keeping ticking of Canadians enough and some action may be taken, just not the kind the Natives want. Never forget that governments can ignore laws, legally no but in reality yes. A government could be elected that simply chooses to ignore all treaty rights, and if the people supported it there would be nothing the Natives could do.... Or more likely there will just be violence against Natives by non-Natives and things will spiral from there and every legal battle Natives have won over years will have been from nothing.
Canada could also stop spending 9.1 billion a year on Natives, cost which increase by about 350 million each year. That 9.1 billion is on top of all other services offered by the government to Canadians. That is an extra $7,700 a year spent on each Native in Canada, on top of all the other money. Canada could sponsor 24,594,5945 children a year in 3rd world countries for that amount of money, or give EVERY person in Canada a $269 check, or better yet use that 9.1 billion to help the other 96.2% of Canada's population that isn't native. That is only at the federal level, billions more a year are spent by the provinces.
If anyone has guessed by now I despise race based funding or rights
