Read in another news article that the man who made almost a 1 million dollars tax-free made the equivalent of 1.8 million dollars off of the reserve.

I'm actually surprised by the lack of a response on CKA, or the media as a whole, to some extent, since this does follow a series of Native articles involving demands for further funding, equitable distribution, and a series of other highly visible ongoing native conflicts.

It's worth pointing out that 222 is not a small percentage of all native reserves, but is more than a third of all of them. Likewise, those making more than the Prime Minister (at least 80) would still be more than an eighth. Neither of these strike me as very small numbers, especially since some of these communities represented are quite small. I felt that portion of the article was a bit misleading.

Apathy. Canadians are exhausted by "native conflicts". No one gives a shit any more.

thats been the problem with reservation funding from day one. even when the money is provided, it doesn't reach the natives that need it most.

I agree with Lemmy. We all know that this stuff is well fucked but no government wants to touch it, so no matter how much we wail and gnash our teeth, fuck-all will change.

The only thing it does is harden views that the natives are wasting our money for nothing. Chicks for free.

having spent a good three years in various parts of Africa, most of the aid is a waste of time too.

We have been giving Africa aid for 50 years now, nothing has changed except the model years on the rulers BMW or Mercedes fleet.

Nope, no corruption on the reserves at all.

When they cry and whine they dont have electricty or running water,
they really dont have far to look.

But they are all blind... must be the firewater.

Our tax money hard at work.... ... not their tax money as they don't pay tax on the tax money given to them to rip off, I mean govern their respective nations. Some only make 60k a year and won't get a pension? BS...60k a year tax free income. I'd sure like that too, but equality isn't the issue here, is it?

Amen. What's the point of getting all riled up when everyone knows the natives will just pull the racism card, justified or not. I think I can safely say everyone is disappointed but not surprised.

From the article:

$1:
Conservative MP Kelly Block introduced a private member's bill that would force First Nations leaders to reveal their salaries and other income and benefits.

That would be a good start.

A good start yes, but lets face it for any actuall change to happen the citizens on these reserves need to speak out agains their leaders instead of blocking roads and blaming the government for everything

They would also have to include friends and family..........theft income splitting isn't just for the tax savvy.
