DrCaleb DrCaleb:

Will Smith being paid $20m for "Wild Wild West" said it all.

They get paid according to their bankability, no matter what a piece of crap the movie turns out to be.

Exactly. In my line of work, I get paid for results, not for how nice a suit I wear. Like PA#9 says, if they want to feel self important because they get paid to entertain people whether they people are entertained or not, I say let them. But that also means I don't have to care about diversity in an industry that doesn't care about producing a premium product.

I wonder when they'll reboot "Fantastic Four" again. And don't even get me laughing about that 'Gods of Egypt' crap. I saw that trailer just before I was disappointed by the latest Star Wars. Didn't look like a film I'd even bother stealing off the Internet.

The actors get paid for results too - results of the last pic they did. Very rare that it is a lead actor that spoils an otherwise good movie, so to deny them a paycheque when the movie bombs hardly seems fair. But some of the smart ones do take a piece of the action in a film they know will sell instead of a huge up front salary. I think it was Jack Nicholson in Batman who took 6 instead of 10 million up front for a piece of the crap they sell around the movie and walked away with 50 mil instead.

If you would grow up and not have your heart set on comic book and sci-fi movies, you'd be less disappointed when it turns out they are made for 13 year olds and except for the effects, pure schlock.

This is one unregulated bit of the free market I love because you can't force someone to make, or like, a turkey of a movie or TV show just to make others happy and un-offended.

Yep. If more diversity paid off in cash, the studios would fall all over themselves to do so.

I watch many movie genres. Sometimes 'House of Sand and Fog' is on the playlist, sometimes it's 'Suicide Squad'. ;) I make no apologies for my tastes. :P ;)

But andy is so much more enlightened than us regular shmoes who like watching pure escapism sometimes.

I'll bet in reality he's a fanboy of romantic comedies, B grade sci-fi and boy bands!

Yup. [drool]

But since we were talking Ghandi, I was actually thinking of Ben Kingsley. ;) Same with "Wild Wild West" and Will Smith, that made me think of "Suicide Squad".

Not to distract from that lovely, but here's exactly what we're talking about. Woman wears pants to the Grammies, men freak out!

http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2016/03/01 ... 55462.html

What if she were . . .black! Heads would explode!

How did Sidney Potier ever win his Oscar? Or Louis Gossett Jr.?

That's a bad example.

If I host a black tie affair, and somebody shows up in jeans...yea, I ain't impressed either.

There are a couple of men I don't speak to any more, specifically for doing that.

Well, fuck those guys for being snotty about it. She looked like the kind of ol' gal that hasn't been comfortable a day in her life wearing a dress so more power to her for her own natural image.
