Why would anyone in their right mind have a twitter account in their own name in this day and age? How many jobs, careers, reputations, lives, etc., have been ruined by this technology? I know I have been guilty of drinking and posting before. Sometimes life is getting you down and you say something stupid in anger, that you regret later. Its one thing to say something stupid in front of your friends with no recording devises around. Ditto posting under a pseudonym like on this site, (although even that can get you in trouble if some one wants to dig deep enough). Having the technology to broadcast to the world what you are thinking 24/7 is just stupid IMHO. You catch your SO cheating with your best friend, Your co worker is stabbing you in the back and stealing your ideas at work, your car is a lemon, you are being audited by the government, jury summons notice for the week you were going on vacation, etc. Day to day life is just to stressfull for people to be able to broadcast to the world what they are thinking every second. The fact that there is a permanet electronic record of what you said only complicates matters.
I felt bad for people when this phenomenon first started. The tech. was new. No one could foresee the catastrophic results that would befall those who were merely doing what they have been doing all their lives when they are pissed off, or stressed out. Everyone now knows the results of broadcasting their opinions to the world in their own name when they are in no condition to be speaking. I no longer have any sympathy for people making this mistake. You insult your boss, and get fired. You admit to criminal activity and get arrested. You make statements that cause you to become a social pariah. You reap what you sew. There is a price to be paid for being stupid. "If you are gonna be dumb you gotta be tough".
