Granted most people who work at the recuiting office are quite good at their job, and I do think that the rest of the military needs to do more to promote itself. Not just recruiting, it would take nothing to call up our regiment and ask us to drive a LAV down to a school for a day.

That's a hell of an idea, Here during Stampede they have all the Breakfasts around town and they activley recruit there, but it's too little for the size of the job, plus they don't bring out the equipment (not that theres much left in Calgary anyway)

When we were in Dartmouth Dad was posted to the Skeena, they had a family cruise out past the harbour mouth, we were allowed to bring civie who weren't associated with the military, they let us fire small arms off the deck of the ship, I know a few guys who joined out of High School just because they experienced 2 hours of what it could be like.

From what I hear retention is the main problem not recruitment, especially for the technical trades.

Rentention wont be an issue when they realise they wont be able to get a trades job since there are none left.

The declining economy will fix everyone's recruiting goals.

That's my story, too. The Corps had a program in 1981 that let me spend a week at Pendleton to "try out" military life and I ate that sh*t up. Tweaked the hell out of my Irish-Catholic, Kennedy liberal parents when I came home and told them I was joining Ronald Reagan's Marine Corps. PDT_Armataz_01_36
