CADPAT works fine as far as I amd concerned. It sounds like they are trying for something closer to the US Army all in one cam which is a complete failure.

You have different camo for different environments. It is just some REMF who wants to make his bookkeeping easier by having one pattern and one supplier and one requisition.

Yeah, I can just see getting deployed to the sandbox wearing an oak leaf breakup pattern because it makes some idiots job easier.

Meh. A group of five black dots on the horizon looks the same regardless of the camo being worn. It's hard to measure the worth of camo if you're specifically talking about an area with little or no vegetation. Tali usually wear black and it works for them just fine.

Sounds like it's not an all-in-one cam pattern, it wouldn't hurt to have tan LAVs, Bisons, and T-LAVs. Also, the arid pattern isn't always the best. Panjwaii district has a lot of vegitation which is where the majority of ambushes take place. Then there's the mountains, we are not ready to operate in a grey rocky battle field if need be. We can choose between tan and green but there needs to be more. Even a winter pattern would be good. The current white covers are a hassle to access equipment and even the tac-vest and BVs are green still.

Maybe something like a big ink jet printer that would spray spots on base color uniforms or cammo nets? I'm pretty forgiving on military spending but this sounds wasteful at this time.

Hahaha. On my last winter ex, we used white tape to cam our rifles and tac vests. If I was allowed to use spray paint, I would.

Providing every soldier with winter TV's and new "winter CADPAT" is a waste of money. The whites are fine, since the cadpat ones are the same with a few grey flecks. Camming temporarily TV's is not a big deal, the same goes with rifles.

As for the vehicles, do they really need to spend $80 000 or whatever this is going to cost to figure out how to paint a LAV beige?

I just can't see where the benefit is going to be, because we don't have the money to keep repainting our vehicles and making small batch runs of kit for every person that deploys to a slightly different environment.

$80,000 is cheap if it saves even one soldier's life. This is penny ante compared to most DND contracts.

If I start to take a signalers advice on cam and concealment I should probably start thinking of transfering to a different trade.

The whites suck. They don't even have pockets. Considering that our new big focus as a military is shifting towards artic sovereignty, I don't think white cadpat is a waste. This isn't even about whites, green and tan cam will not work in any situation and we need a program which allows us to adapt to the situation. Period.

Let's be honest, I have seen the new whites and I have seen someting almost exactly the same used by the marines and I did not see any difference in concealment that would justify the cost. Period.
