$1: Busters is offering to pay him the black book value for a '92 Tercel, which is $800.
But Gray says his car was worth about $6,000 and he has the bills to prove it.
Lol! Yeah right, a 1992 POS is worth $6,000. Dream on drunky!

A quick search of Autotrader turned up 4 of them for sale across all of Canada. 3 of them are between $895-995 and the other one is asking $1,700...........although it's a "DX" This guy is out to lunch if he thinks it's worth $6,000.

This is why I loathe having my vehicle towed. Some of these people can be pretty incompetent.
But this takes it to a whole new level.

You scrap it, and buy something worth $4000 and give it a cheap paint job for $500. And when you drink you take a cab or the bus.

(car, house, clothing for dogs, dresses for their little Princesses.) Economics are not the issue when you love something. What he forgets tho, is that you will never get back what you put in, because an old car won't get worth more with age. Unless it is REALLY REALLY REALLY old, unique, and in fabulous condition. Since he drove around in it, it is not. $1: And when you drink you take a cab or the bus. THAT I agree with 250%

I've seen people do that to older cars that could take the power of a new engine (Nissan 240SX, Civic Coupes, Honda Preludes) but a Tercel is a POS, period.

Awwww my heart pumps piss for him. He got caught drinking and driving and his car was inadvertantly crushed as a result. Tough shit. Besides, was the 92 Tercel even worth $6000 band new?

Something similar happened to my brother last year - a jackass ran a red light and wiped out his '93 Ford Escort, which had super low mileage (under 80k) and was in fantastic shape (both body and engine). The insurance company gave him book value ($500) for it, but he wasn't able to find anything remotely close to replace it. The problem is that insurance companies replace only the book value, not the real value of a vehicle to a person when something like this happens.

I had a '91 Tercel and it was definitely not a POS - it ran like a dream, was fuel efficient and never broke down on me once in the five years I owned it. The Ford Taurus I replaced it with (when the Tercel engine died) most definitely was. If I could go back in time, I would tell myself to replace the engine for $4000 and not buy that Taurus for $6000 - well that and to buy stock in eBay, Amazon and a couple others.

And he shouldn't have been drinking and driving. True. And the penalty for that was to have his car impounded for 3 days, have his license taken away, and I am sure a fine. Doesn't say "WE ARE GOING TO CRUSH YOUR CAR". $1: Brenda Brenda: You make it sound ok to give a burglar the death penalty.
