fifeboy fifeboy:
Most Canadians don't give a rats ass about the gun registry and a significant number support it.

Until they hear how much of a joke it is and what a massive waste of tax dollars it was and continues to be.

This registry does nothing except suck tax dollars from you and I to pay for a false sense of security.

Don't you mean an insignificant number?

No, I mean significant. I suspect the registry has seen it's day, but a significant number of Canadians support it. Unless of course you discount anyone who does not have your views.

It has been expensive for sure. As to the fate of the registry, we shall see.

Because Canadians, for the most part, don't have a clue what the registry is for. You tell them that it's a registry to track gun owners, they're all for it....but when you get into the details of cost and results, that "significant" number will get small very quickly.

this bill is a waste of time and money; most criminals are smart enough not to register their guns anyways...and what about the smuggling of handguns into the country? this is a bigger issue which is not even addressed

Canadians split over long-gun registry: poll

$1:
Thirty-eight per cent said they would have voted to abolish the registry, and 31 per cent would have voted to keep it. Thirty-one per cent were undecided or did not have a response.

Earlier this month, the federal long-gun registry moved a step closer to being abolished when a private member's bill to scrap the program passed second reading in the Commons.

Canadians Worried About Violence, But Question Long Gun Registry’s Efficacy

$1:
Just 11 per cent of Canadians think the Canadian
Firearms Registry has been successful in preventing crime in Canada, while 32 per centbelieve it has had no effect in crime, and 46 percent brand the effort as unsuccessful.

Even Quebecers, who express high support for stricter measures throughout the survey, think the long gun registry has not been successful in
preventing crime.

Half of respondents (51%) support scrapping the long gun registry, while one-third (34%) disagree.Support for abandoning the registry surpasses the 50 per cent mark in every Canadian province, with the
exception of Quebec.

Very much down from its heyday of 60% support. The real world does much damage to the supporters of the gun registry.

What I mean is that the registry will not have an effect on any election in the near future. People who really care about the registry would not vote Liberal under any circumstances and people who would really be pissed off if it was abolished wouldn't vote Conservative. In the end it's a non issue.
