BartSimpson BartSimpson:
Spaniard Spaniard:
I see all this has Merged, at 1:30pm Montreal just got rattle for a few seconds, a 4.7 earthquake in Lachute Quebec. No all is good I would have a hard time believing a tsunami appeared on the Saint Lawrence River, however if it happened in the Middle of the Great Lakes this could create one?

The Big Wigs in Japan have raised the Levels of Radiation exposure the Power plant works as individuals can be exposed to. They sent the Japanese workers back in over a hundred ++ to fix the Problem, this looks like a suicide mission for those individuals. If It's been days they haven't succeeded in cooling the rods and Rods that are exposed plus the explosion and fires. The Japanese Company and Government officials have been telling half truths or down playing the severity of this situation. Radiation is leaking into the air and the amounts are dangerous the evacuation zone was 30K, is it 40K? now.

Not all tsunamis are 35 meters tall. Some are mere centimeters and a 4.7 probably generated some pond sloshers. We see this all the time in California with moderate quakes making waves in lakes and swimming pools.

And not every earthquake creates a Tsunami. It depends on how the fault line is situated, whether the plates shift or collide, etc etc.
A Tsunami is VERY RARE.

On a related topic, I've been very disappointed in the coverage of this event by FOX News as compared to CNN. FOX is acting as if this is not so big a deal and their coverage is not at all as intense as the coverage from CNN.

Pretty much, I've just been watching CNN on this story.

This isn't about the NPPs but i just heard 2 shockings things. 1) the quake moved Japan 13 feet closer to us. 2)The quake altered the earth's axis by 6 degrees. The second point bothers me because the last I heard, it was 4 degrees.
Does anyone know if the 4 degrees was an error and 6 degrees is the correction, or is the change in axis getting larger?

$1:
Instead the quake shifted what's called Earth's figure axis, an imaginary line around which the world's mass is balanced, about 33 feet (10 meters) from the north-south axis.
Doubt there's been a 6 degree shift, that would be huge.

NASA says the axis was shifted 6 inches.

Neither. 1.8 Microseconds. Slower.

edit: By 'slower' I mean the time it takes the Earth to rotate through 1 day got 1.8 uS shorter.

Ok, that helps but what I'm asking is, initial reports indicated a 4 degree shift in our axis a few days ago. Today, they said 6 degrees. Was that number change a correction or has the axis shifted another 2 degrees since the initial report?

I hope the airlines reduce their fares accordingly.

I think both are wrong. 6% is 2400 kms... I cannot imagine the poles moved 2400 kms...

Just because you are you, you will get a $0.01 discount on airfare, and a $25 increase in administration costs because they had to calculate this
