How times change. I was still under the impression that Israel would neither confirm nor deny it's nuclear capabilty. So to see this came as a bit of a suprise.

Well, for one that was 5 years ago and was probably a mistranslation.
The most striking note is that 'wipe off the map' is an English idiom.

Yeah, I understand both are really pissing in their own cup of water.
I think it should be seen and understood though that Israel is pretty consistent
and official with it's threats, and no one wants to say "Hey, wait a sec."

Israel was accepted as a member of the United Nations by majority vote on May 11, 1949

The fact of the matter is Israel IS a UN member, and those ships that were boarded were attempting to break a naval blockade. When you have a naval blockade you do not wait for the ships to get close to shore you take them out as soon as possible. The fact that Israel didn't just sink them shows a lot of restraint.
