My one trip to an Iranian restaurant in Calgary was an underwhelming experience. I should give it another go.

Oh please... don't do a cookbook first. Try an Indian restaurant with cooks who know what they're fucking doing.
All the Indian places I've eaten at have dishes from the owners' homeland, the "Indian" is generic probably referring to the geographic area of British India.

Said that as I recently ate at one place that had heard of calamari and served their version of what they thought it was. And a pub that did the same for bao and lettuce wraps.

Some say Pakistan makes a better mutton biryani than India. I’m perfectly happy with the Indian version at home.
