Yes it does hurt both our economies but it also sends a message to the U.S. that we are not there bitches.

Let America know that they cannot just take up all the jobs, slap out free trade agreement in the face and fuck over many Canadian Companies and Jobs. I salute those Canadian towns, etc who ban American buisness shutting down jobs that were dependant on that buisness the same way America has been doing to Canada.

many Candia

$1:
Ignatieff said he’s not in favour of retaliatory action to shut American companies out of the multibillion-dollar municipal and provincial procurement market, but he blamed Prime Minister Stephen Harper for leaving municipalities with little choice but to react.

So Ignatieff would have us cower in front of American trade restrictions with no action? What is good for the goose is good for the gander, it was not Canada that initiated this mess.

$1:
"Where was Harper? Where was the prime minister of Canada? We have been blindsided by this. The prime minister of Canada’s got to get on the phone . . . and get (American states) to understand how damaging this is."

We might have to, because assurances from Obama, our lord and savior, turned out to be very hollow.

Well, Iggy is right on this one. A trade war is the last thing we need right now.

$1:
He repeatedly accused the Conservative government of failing to take cities seriously or treat them as worthy of attention, and promised that cities would be equal partners with the provinces and Ottawa under a Liberal government.

I don't know about the last bit, but he's right about the first half. Harper and the Conservatives don't care much for cities because they traditionally have done poorly in them, especially in the biggest ones.

Agreed. when the dust settles and the economy is back on track these protectionist feelings will abate.

We don't need a trade war, but we don't need to be pushed around either.

Perhaps if Iggy was so smart, he could offer some ideas of how to handle it instead of just finding fault with harper. Or does he just want to be a hero when he is elected. It will be a bit late then.

I hear him spouting a lot of what is wrong, but I hear nothing of how to get out of this mess.

He lived there for 30 odd years, he should have some ideas how to handle them.

All I hear is more bullshit.

With what we pay these guys, they could do a bit more for us than just fight with each other like a bunch of 3rd graders

Ignatieff has had much to say about unemployment, the recession and the current mess we are in.. if you (Woodhead) would take the time to listen you might get the message.

What do attack ads have to do with this trade problem? The guy has a point. What's Iggies solution to this problem other than to criticize the Government.

Not a one of them is any good, or we wouldn't have 2 succesive minority governments.

lets see a solid plan from either one...they are all just full of shit.

Both parties were solidly turfed by the Canadian people because they screwed up so bad.

Don't forget where the Conservatives were a few years ago and the only reason they are where they are now is because they joined with Harpers western crew.

We pay for better than we get.

Sure, the attack ads are BS, but at least we get some comedic relief from them

This is a unique situation. I recall the Conference Board of Canada reporting a few years ago that some 69% of working Canadians were employed by a firm OUTSIDE Canada. The same report indicated that some 73% of those were employed by American firms.

I'm still not clear how anyone can deposit their pay cheque from their US sugar daddy and then tell them to F off. Canadians sold off their sovereignty long ago and willing become a US branch plant. Live with it and at least pay less taxes in the process.

...hum, maybe next time they will vote NDP and scrap the NAFTA Agreement once and for all.
