Good point herbie.

I'm sure in the near future there will be more discoveries. It's going to be horrific but at least these children will be at last acknowledged. The truth has been buried for far too long.

herbie herbie:
So settle down a bit. Don't be digging any sites up without the express consent of the local First Nations people. They may want to preserve the site as sacred ground, it is their decision.
In spite of the horrific discoveries, many of them are devout Catholics. It would be more meaningful for senior officials of their Church to stand before them, confess the sins of the past and sanctify those grounds. Confession is a central part of their belief and it's beyond time for the Church itself to practice that.

Boots was suggesting that the Church's assets be confiscated, sold off and the proceeds given to the Natives as compensation.

Whoever buys the lands might have other intentions for it, and not be interested carrying out the same functions the Church did.

966 children at this point. If there ever was a better case to do away with the Church's special status in Canada, I'd like to hear it. Part of me wonders how bad this is going to get. 10's of Thousands?

The report estimated 6,000 are yet to be found.

Attacking the church isn’t going to help. The programs to help the homeless, chalice (to help kids around the world) food banks and others do good. It’s not a black and white issue nor are they a black and white organization. Unfortunately releasing the records are going to show that monsters were in charge they don’t want to acknowledge that. The finds and lack of cooperation are proof enough of that. We were even given a ruling of 3/5ths. We weren’t considered people. How can anyone look at a child and not see a child? They were babies all of them!

I found an old beat up pair of kids shoes (Thomas the Tank Engine too small now) they are on the front steps.

We didn't hold Bush accountable for the Iraq war on false pretense and we ended up with Trump who was shameless monster. Actions NEED to have consequences.

My question is this: Ground scan sonar has been around for some time. Why is this just being done now?

Ground penetrating sonar/radar has been around since the mid-1970's, and has been in commercial use as early as 1992. I'm not buying the 'It's Harper's fault' crap. Give that dead horse a rest.

Now, tell me the real reason why this hasn't been done before now.

Because money hasn’t been released. Doesn’t matter who was in office as there’s always a little pissant who decides that they are ruler of their little fiefdom and that it’s a personal affront to spend the money without more paperwork and hoops than is possible to fill out without three lifetimes and 37 degrees. Government is very good at making promises that are very hard to actually get full filled. It makes them sound and feel better while doing absolutely nothing!!

Also if you watch a British show called Time Team. You will see from series one to the last one a huge difference in ground penetrating radar over time. It used to be weird blobs by the end they were showing graves with a good accuracy. That show ended a few years ago but I’m sure it has only gotten better.

So it hasn’t been done before now because the government really didn’t ever want it to be done. They don’t want the majority of the country to know that what was being said was true. Think how that would look and what would the neighbours say?

Back the bus up. It IS HARPER's fault. The report was on HIS watch. Trudeau did allocate money in 2017 but FAILED to disseminated it, so he is implicated as well but it is ON HARPER WATCH THE REPORT CAME OUT.

Full stop, he is responsible for this not being done till a private go fund me was launched.

But you don’t get it. No one was listening to the reports and the government was happy. Doesn’t really matter who was in all the parties knew this boom was floating around. All the upper government workers (non elected) have been pussyfooting around native issues since the 1960’s. And not well I might add. The gofundme was brilliant and it blew up real good. It’s going to look bad on all of them. I’m sure there’s lots of people playing duck and cover while making their pretty speeches. It’s not a party issue it’s an all government issue that they have been trying to avoid.

Harper was in power when the report came out but I would bet all my money that they all were pleased that no one really listened or read the report. And what was popular opinion something about them always wanting more money that it was good money after bad they already had everything after all. We can play which party sucks the most but in the end you will find that the workings of the government don’t change with the party it just carries on doing what they did yesterday. Some policies change we get a bunch of flowery speeches about how everything will change with the new leadership but really nothing does.

I agree. Problem is, some around here will turn it into an instant partisan thing instead of looking at the big picture, as you have.

But, I digress. That is, unfortunately a way of life for some.
