Tricks Tricks:
Dig up every school's grounds.

And seize by court order the records of every single church organization that operated the schools. And when the Vatican tries to dodge their way out of their obligation kick their fucking nuncio ambassador out of the country altogether.

Why stop at that, strip the Catholic Church of it's tax exempt status. I hope the all the bands affected by these schools class action the shit out of the Vatican.

I'm at the point where we should just seize all of the Catholic Church's assets in Canada and sell everything off, then distribute it to First Nations, Metis and Inuit across the country.

And then there’s shit like this!!!

Also they have said it is over 700! I won’t be surprised if officially the TRC number isn’t at least tripled. We will never know the true number

Yeah and that’s only 2 schools. It also doesn’t count the kids that died running or suicide after the numbers will never truly be known. And people will still find a way to discount it or explain it away while being surprised at the upset of others

966 children at this point. If there ever was a better case to do away with the Church's special status in Canada, I'd like to hear it. Part of me wonders how bad this is going to get. 10's of Thousands?

The whole point of Pastafarainism was to highlight the absurdity of the special status of Religon in a secular society.

I think the most useless industry in history should have had to pay their own way, like everyone else.

Which is why I am Pastafarain. Too many people do too stupid of things in the name of the imaginary sky deity.

$1:
Keenan also said in his sermon that while the church should apologize for its participation in the "ill-devised government project," it should also wait to find out who was buried at the Kamloops site and why before "rendering ultimate judgment."

That requires your cult church turning over the fucking documents, numbnuts.

housewife housewife:

And no one listened no one believed. Oh they have it so good they get everything handed to them why are they complaining why don’t they leave if it’s so bad. Are all statements and questions said. We’ve all heard them. What I want to know is where they were expected to go. Oh move to the big city get a better life but if they move they find different problems. Without family or friends to help. People need to understand that there are just as many stories of people leaving and becoming lost. Of people trying to find family of police telling them they don’t know or care then later having their remains returned. Or worse never found. This is going to get worse their will be idiots doing violence which will only hurt their community in the end. There will be people saying that this has been paid for already. The shock that people have hurts. It’s nothing new in my world, even not growing up on reserves I heard about it. But the news didn’t cover it and the people who tried to bring attention to it were talked over till no one was listening. As now they are shocked that this festering wound didn’t go away. And that it’s caused generational problems. People can’t grow in an abusive relationship and not have problems and that’s really what this boils down to. Sadly I am finding it hard to have any faith that even with this proof that things will really change. There’s still so many without water there’s still inadequate housing cause the housing isn’t free. There’s still people going into isolated areas and saying I’m here to fix everything without knowing anything about the people the community or the problems. They don’t listen to anyone and do what they think they would want if they were in that situation. Communities ask for this and get that cause someone in some big city thinks that they know better. If you have never lived outside a big city you can’t understand. Though how people can’t understand the need for clean drinking water is beyond me.

I’m rambling again hopefully that all makes sense

You're not rambling. You're saying what needs to be said, and you have every right to be upset.

"The Indian has been repeatedly asked what he wants. He has repeatedly said what he wants. He has repeatedly shouted what he wants."

Harold Cardinal wrote those words over 50 years ago in The Unjust Society. Fifty. Years.

Like I said before, only real change can bring true reconciliation.

We have the truth. Now let's see if we can make the deeper changes needed.

Two points:

1) It wasn't just the Catholic Church that was involved in this shit. There were actually competitions between denominations over students and funding. The Anglican Church, to its credit, has apparently done more to apologies and try to make things right, according to the TRC summary. It provided numerous photos used in the report.

2) Define "assets". Are you talking about lands and institutions? Here in St. Albert the Oblates run a nursing home that cares for a number of elderly residents, including my own grandmother. They also maintain a fair-sized cemetery behind the church building.

What do you do with all the elderly residents in the home? Make them all move in with relatives? What do you do with the cemetery? Dig up all the bodies?

What about the support churches provide to homeless people? Who takes over that?

Who or what would take over all the other social functions churches are involved in?

So settle down a bit. Don't be digging any sites up without the express consent of the local First Nations people. They may want to preserve the site as sacred ground, it is their decision.
In spite of the horrific discoveries, many of them are devout Catholics. It would be more meaningful for senior officials of their Church to stand before them, confess the sins of the past and sanctify those grounds. Confession is a central part of their belief and it's beyond time for the Church itself to practice that.

The Church has had seventeen hundred years of believing that the institution is utterly infallible, and that by default it's servants are as well. There will be no apology from them, ever.
