i get his point, we did change our solute until around unification in the 60's. But outside of the RCMP, the military does not solute the same as the Brit's anymore.

It's a reinvention of history much like how in the USA people tend to want to erase the facts of how US civilians used to salute the flag.

The Bellamy salute was replaced in 1942, and was first used in 1892 decades before the fascists adopted it. The Olympic salute isn't much different.
