Halloween at a biker bar in the mid 1970s, a couple came in dressed as East Indians, Brown face, saris, massive turban. The guy even had this grotesque made up hooked nose.
I had to intervene when some of the bikers came over with pool cues to start Paki bashing... they're Halloween costumes FFS... one of the bikers had to squeeze the guys nose to make sure and then they were all laughing like hell.
The girl was scared shitless the whole time, then the bikers sent over a jug.

Just a few years ago we were going to the bar and the old lady and her friends wanted to dress ME up as a "Chinaman"... they were right pissed when I refused. None of them could see a damn thing wrong with doing that.

It's not only Halloween costumes, this is only the tip of the silliness iceberg! This whole country is going ass over tea kettle trying to be politically correct no matter where you look. Women's rights, First nations/Indigenous rights, begging forgiveness for past wrongs to potential immigrants being denied entry - the Komagata Maru incident, the Chinese head taxes, WWII internment camps, indigenous schools, land treaties. Where will it all end, when we have given absolutely everything the country has to give?

What’s wrong with any of those? And why do you see any of that as “giving away what the country has to hive”?

Yeah, it's a bit silly. Halloween was always pretty regulated, even when I was a kid. There was a list of costumes you couldn't wear. But that list has gotten longer over the years. Hitler as a costume was probably pretty popular in the years following the war. heck, look at Hogan's Heroes--German war camps were a high-ratings sitcom.

People just spend too much time worrying about what everybody else is up to when it's none of their damn business.

While I agree that kids should be allowed to enjoy the whole thing and dress up and be silly if they choose maybe there are some lines to be drawn. I honestly find the 9/11 reference with the women dressed as the towers in the midst of destruction to be quite insensitive and not really a costume at all, at least to me.

Well you can’t blame me, if I let him be the dick and I’m the asshole then he’s going to be chasing me around the whole night.

It's not the costumes that killed Halloween.
No more firecrackers. Now they want to ban fireworks totally. No 'tricking' anymore.
Parents so paranoid they bring kids to community "safe" Halloweens with chickenshit games and free toothbrushes and deprive us from giving them candy and seeing the little brat's outfits.
Ohhh the streets are so unsafe... and Mommy lives in fucking Quesnel and believes that shit. My stepdaughter uses the 'there's too many registered sex offenders' in her little goddam town and it's not even safe to go in groups. Course she's full of shit and too damn lazy to go with them.
My daughter has no kids and lives in a neighbourhood referred to as Candycane Lane. The whole area goes all out for Halloween and Christmas and the kids do just like we did. She stocks up for about 200 trick or treaters.
