Everyone has "A Right To Starve" and artists will starve as they should.

So, I take it Robmik and Scarecrow are going to vote for somebody besides Harper this election.

I'm hoping to get a grant to remove every last piece of art from Edmonton for a month, an experiment, a living art piece of sorts. No TV, no radio, no theater, no books, no music, no fashion, no ads of any kind, all signage and business logos hidden, no pictures, no icons. NO ART.

Reverend Blair Reverend Blair: What happened to his ideals, Ruez? Where are the Conservatives who loved his attacks on the arts? What about the ideals of any politician that changes a policy due to voter persuasion? Isn't this the definition of democracy? The voters have told Harper they were unhappy with his policies and eventually he changed them. Would you rather have him flip the artists the bird and say tough? Forget it, you will disagree with anything the Conservatives do.

This wasn't voter persuasion though. Harper hasn't admitted that he was mistaken. He has gone back to a policy that he's been defending for months, a bad piece of policy that just a few weeks ago he was attacking the Senate viciously for not passing, and decided to change it.
Will he keep that promise after an election? Likely not. He'll need to placate McVety and the religious nutbars he depends on so heavily, so he'll launch another attack from another direction. It's what he does.

Reverend Blair Reverend Blair: So, I take it Robmik and Scarecrow are going to vote for somebody besides Harper this election. I don't speak for Scarecrow. Rev...you don't speak for me. I regret, as always, any funding for 'arts' that are rubbish, or 'artists' that are welfare bums. ...but I won't vote for anyone but Harper.

If I like hockey, I buy a ticket, and the hockey players are well paid.
If I like the arts, I'm too damn cheap to buy my own ticket to an arts show, and rather have the government support the artist directly. Hence, the artist will never do well because he's a welfare case.
Maybe the people that like the arts should stop being so damn cheap, eh?

Well, this is one time I think Harper should have stuck to his guns. The reason the arts need so much funding, they don't draw flies to their performances or events. They don't get people to come and watch, so like any business, they should fail and go away.

It's what he does. How is he mistaken? He doesn't have to change his personal stance and hand out apologies - he can however, change policy to suit his constiuents.

You mean the guy that buries himself in a shallow grave and drinks his own blood out of a vial in his anus is going to be eligible for a grant once again? That's art allright.

At this point he's changing policy to hopefully suit the voter, Gunnair.

Except he's not really changing policy, is he, Wada? Read what he actually said, and there's no promise there, just a suggestion that he'll look at it. It's weasel words.
McVety was on TV whining like a whipped puppy today. It's pretty clear that after the election he's going to be leaning on Harper to keep the law in place and likely bring in even more policies that put far right Christian believers in charge of arts funding.
We'll all end up watching that Davey and Goliath cartoon if we aren't careful.
