Had the bus driver or at least someone on the bus had been licensed to carry a handgun the kid may still have been stabbed, but he'd probably still be alive and we'd have a dead perp.

I'm part of what you unjustly labeled as The Gun Nut Crowd and strongly believe a horrific tragedy like this could have been prevented anywhere else if an Air Marshall type was carrying a gun but not in this case because it happened on a Bus..

If this happened on a plane the chance of an Air Marshall successfully taking out the suspect would have been greater because he or she would have had the room maneuver hopefully getting a clean shot where as on a bus the chance would have been slim because the room maneuver is not there..

I can also find many news reports of people that have survived multiple stab wounds.

Surviving strab woulds all depends on where you get stabbed. Tim MacLean was not lucky, apparently.

He probably was dead quite quickly. My point is though, that no one knows. No one can be certain that a quick armed intervention might not have saved his life. The only time we can be certain that he was dead is when the guy severed his head.
