The Canadian Military did NOT try to bury it. It was a close call, but not the mistake of the US. Aluminum foil hats anyone?

We rely on their air cover. We do not have any of our own, and they're good at what they're doing.

Confusing, fluid situation so the chance of a mistake is huge, expecially when air support is used.
Are we assuming that Canadian FC18's would have not made this mistake?
The US is always fighting against this problem and they blow their own troops too. This is one of the main driver of the networked battlefield concept.

That blessing of near instant firepower can be a curse very quickly and mistakes happen.

If the Army and the Airforce would use the Same Data-Link format... it would eleviate a lot of casualties

Mr_Canada Mr_Canada:
And why the hell did the Canadian military try and bury it?

Good point! My guess would be it would lead to even more Canadians thinking we should get out of Afghanistan now...not that I do, but public support is quickly eroding in the face of casualties we've sustained in the past six months.

Where do we hear that this is some deep secret? I'll admit that this is a morale killer but friendly fire has been around forever. I can imagine Romans bitching about Assyrian bowmen getting too close.

I was reading about the US operaton Anaconda and they had terrible 3CI problems. Convoys got shelled or straifed and no one could talk to anybody, etc. Frightening when these are some of the best..

Americans never return to base with an extra bomb

I was watching a documentary on Iraq and two American APC's passed each other at night. They unloaded on each other and kept driving. The poor reporter musta shit his flack jacket.

To say that this is ok becuase it happens, or has happened before......I cant even comprehend that....why is it ok for friendly bombs to be dropped on our soldiers? There shouldnt ever be any excuses for that. It should NEVER happen.

Whoever said that bombing that location was fine should be dealt with strongly.

There of course will be casualties of war, but to say that almost as many Canadians have been killed by friendly fire than enemy is a sad state of affairs.

There is no excuse for this to happen and if this does continue to happen then Canada should be pulling out of there. If america wants to kill Canadians they can try and do it on our own soil and then see what happens.

SireJoe: You are simply using this as an opportunity to bash Americans. If this were Americans bombing Americans, you'd be giggling like a little school girl. You are a disgusting little fellow.

Organizing artillery or air support would be like pre-plan to have 4 of you're hockey team show for 5 min, during a game that you will be playing in an hour, by crappy cell phone on a conference call with the whole team. To leave them out and you will be overwhelmed, add them at the wrong time and they will be wasted or worst.

It should not happen but then, neither should wars.
