American 24-hour news networks regularly insult Canada for a cheap thrill. But of course, we just take it like good little subjects of the Empire.
That said, they do bring up a few excellent points, albeit in the most arrogant and obnoxious way imaginable. Namely that the Canadian military could not afford to expend its military resources, already in short supply, so frivolously if it weren't for allies like the United States. The point is that as the world gets scarier and less dependable, Canada's ability to protect its citizens, its territory and its resources from any and all threats, with or without ally support, is a prime concern. We need to respond.
Unfortunately, it couldn't have come at a worse time. Financial crisis and deficit spending.
As for those assholes, I am simply astonished at their complete lack of decency and integrity. This is what journalism has been reduced to in the US. That is what is truly shameful here. And the way they so ostentatiously proclaim that the US is the most powerful country in the universe, even though they come from the first generation to have contributed NOTHING to its growth. Theirs is the first generation to have achieved less than their parents in the history of the Occident. Yet they never miss a chance to brag... and about what really?
