No it's not your patriotic duty to be offended, but if a TV show was disrespecting the Canadian Military and you as a Canadian or even have served in the Forces don't get upset about it even a little bit than yes I would gladly judge your patriotism.

You claimed in this quote to have served in the Forces for 28 years, should therefor know that the CF deserves respect. If it's your choice to not voice that it deserves respect and doesn't deserve disrespect than that's your choice but I am however tierd of the same old stereo-types, disrespect or even knowledge that the CF even exists.

If somebody calls Canadian Soldiers murderers than yes I would have been in the same position as I am in now. Infact that discussion has already been brought up many times and pretty much everybody including Americans in this forums were all bitching at the guy who wrote that article(s). Because as you see at this day and time with all the losses of soldiers and terrorism. Everybody is emotional and extra patriotic and it doesn't matter what country you are from. Any disrespect or unfounded accusations always gets people riled up.

Go search these forums and you will find the exact same thing in many military articles. However everytime I play a video game, I usually always have one or even several Americans disprespecting me for being Canadian, disrespecting our Military and even our Country. I have stayed silent and just ignored there comments for a long time except for some rare ocasions where I just wasn't in the mood to hear them.

All ignoring ignorance does is make them feel superior and that they can get away with it. Confronting it is my new approach and any disrespect that is unfounded towards the CF I will always be there to argue against it from now on.

Tell me exactly how letting this little TV show get away with these jokes does anything?

If I got angry and upset everytime someone said something disrespectful of the CF I'd probably still be in jail. The majority of disrespectful comments I have recieved about the CF have come from fellow CANADIANS!

No, I find it embarrassing because it is a strain that runs throughout Canadian culture. There is absolutely no frickin' way this level of response would have happened in America had it been on the other foot. You are deluding yourself if you believe Hillary Clinton would have demanded an apology and whipped the country up into a state of indignation.

This happens in Canada. During the World Series between the Blue Jays and the Braves, the marines came in with the Canadian flag upside down. Canada went ballistic. A mature country would have laughed at the stupidity of the marines. But in Canada, it brought about several days of national angst. When a caller from Vancouver was on the Ross Perot / Al Gore CNN debate over NAFTA, it was the lead on The National. This is a sign of political immaturity. We care immensely what America things of us, so much so that a high-ranking minister feels it necessary to take to task a nobody shockjock broadcast says in the middle of the night.

Some Canadians will say "Well, its no different in the US because look at what they say on Fox!" That is wrong. There is a huge difference between what gets said on a politically-biased news network and what permeates throughout the national dialogue. When Carolyn Parrish said she hated Americans, it might have gotten play on the sensationalistic Fox News, but did it make the front page of The New York Times or the Washington Post? Was it on The CBS Evening News? Did it make the editorial page of The Wall Street Journal? No. Americans don't care. But when a nobody at 3am says something stupid, the government of Canada feels necessary to respond.
