Ohh, definitely a Darwin award for all 4 of them. They're a shoe-in for that.
Sympathy for the family.
When I try to picture this, it comes out looking like a Monty Python skit.

It's just not funny. It would have been if they survived...
Can you imagine what has gone through those kids' minds?

How do four adult males jump into a lake one after another and drown one after another?

Panic and hypothermia, is my best guess.

Chances are that the one guy who couldn't swim was panicked and could very well have been the deciding factor in the others deaths. He could very well, in his panic, have hurt the others who were trying to save him, as the others tired or became injured it was only a matter of time and like Brenda said, water temp would have robbed them of heat and strength. Plus with the boat drifting away.....
Two were brothers and I'd imagine the others were close friends, they would have done anything and did to try and save one another. It's sad that not one of them took a second to think rationally and rescue their friends by maneuvering the boat close and then dragging them in.
This is indeed a sad story and I can't imagine the toll on those kids. My condolences to the families.

This sure hits 'close to home'. Brenda got it right on the button! Hypothermia, and panic are definite possibilities.
