That seriously sucks. That is the first word of looting that we've heard.

Spruce Grove isn't Edmontchuk - it's half an hour west of the city...just saying.

Come on Boots, that's like saying Surrey isn't a part of Vancouver or Missisuaga isn't a part of Toronto.

It's part of the capital region sure, but ask anyone from either Edmonton or Spruce Grove and they'll say the same thing.

It goes the same for Sherwood Park, St Albert and Leduc too. Most residents of the surrounding bedroom communities are adamant that tgey do NOT live in Edmonton.

Same goes for people living in Airdrie, Brooks and Cochrane (they are not Calgary and either) - I don't know it must be an Alberta thing.

No one here says they're from Surrey when they're from Vancouver, and vice versa. If they go to Alberta or beyond tho, they would all say they're from Vancouver. See how that works?

Spruce Grove is closer to West Edmonton than other areas of the city so it could be seen as part of Edmonton even though it's not. White Rock is part of South Surrey yet it's independant.

No, White Rock has its own city council. It is a separate city, but is part of Metro Vancouver. South Surrey, otoh, doesn't exist as a political entity.

When I lived in White Rock I was told by long time residencies it was part of South Surrey. The Ft Mac Wildfires brings up memories of the Okanagan Wildfires.

The only thing White Rock and South Surrey share is the same phone exchange which, is likely why social climbing people like my inlaws kept saying they were from White Rock, instead of Surrey. :P

It's kind of like the Woodstock syndrome. Far more people claim to live in White Rock than is physically possible so, if that claim was even remotely true South Surrey would still be uninhabited

Personally, I think that the difference is that there is little or no discernable distance between Vancouver and most of its suburbs, but in Alberta, almost all of the suburbs surrounding the major cities are physically separated by farmland and highway (Sherwood Park and St Albert being two notable exceptions).

Even in those cases, many residents are quick to point out they are not Edmontonians, even when traveling.

I doubt many people who live in Hope tell people they live in Vancouver.

Just don't piss off an Edmontonian (right) by saying they have anything in common with Drayton Valley (left).
