He failed to follow proper weapon handling drills. Yep, he's a fool.

Fine, maybe a mistake anybody can make. But to turn and fire because you think somebody is cocking a gun in your back, in your own tent...Probably the truth is what he supposedly told some people - he was playing quick draw with his buddy and forgot the gun was loaded.

You don't 'forget' a gun is loaded.

Tell that to all the people who have died from just that.

They didn't 'forget'. They didn't make sure it was unloaded.

I wasn't disagreeing with your orginal statement about his actions.

And I wasn't picking a fight. Just clarifying what I think. This guy should not be in the military. I bet he feels bad enough for killing his friend, I think he should get a lenient sentence. But he's not mature enough to be in the forces. I bet he's not the first guy to forget to unload his weapon before entering his quarters, nor will he be the last. It's the quick draw part I have a problem with.

well I don't buy it either way. Firearms are not toys, they should not have been engaged in any form of quick draw exercise anywhere other than on the range. It's just to easy to make a mistake.

I have been around firearms all my life, also a fellow reservist, I ALWAYS handled my firearms as if they were loaded even when I knew and PROVED they were not.

I think he should face the maximum sentence. He committed the ultimate sin as an infantryman and killed his friend by f*cking around and then trying to cover up his actions. If he had manned up and admitted his fault I would agree with a lesser sentence, but his true self emerged when he began to change his story to make him appear to be less of an idiot.

If your unsure of the state of your weapon, act as if it loaded.

Simple. Basic. Training. Fundamentals.

according to him, he did act as if it was loaded. Somebody cocked a pistol behind his back, so he turned and fired. He must have expected/known that the gun was loaded. ('course I think this is bullshit).

He was in his tent in the middle of the base in Kandahar surrounded by several thousand other troops and he claimed he felt he was threatened.

Nothing but bullshit rolling out of this little f*ckers mouth. PDT_Armataz_01_17

He also looks like a little weasel.
