I see Russia, China or even the EU more of a threat to Canadian sovereignty then the USA will ever be...

If you listen to right wing conservatives like Jerome Corsi, some of them believe it was our rush to globalization that created this whole economic mess....

Are you kidding? The USA is the BIGGEST threat to our sovereignty BECAUSE our economies are so intertwined, as a result of how we've made them so.

NAFTA Chapter 11, for the most part. The government of New Brusnwick attempted to introduce public auto insurance, but was forced to back down when american auto insurance companies used Chapter 11 to claim their profits would be harmed. Same thing right now in Quebec where they're trying to ban pesticides but DOW Chemical is claiming they'd be financially affected.

Our governments are being prevented from doing what they feel is best by American companies who are weilding the power we gave to them in NAFTA chapter 11.

the theory of globalization is it will level the playing field, giving the world a common standard of living...

Now how will it create this? By bringing the standard of North America down to compete with India, China, etc... Sorry like the Kyoto Accord this is more about redistributing wealth. North America will be a big loser..

The standard of living in North America was much better in the 1960's prior to this big push for globalization....

There are others... Catherine Austin-Fitts for example...Have you ever her speak? You do know who she is? She is a conservative...who was director and member of the board of directors of the Wall Street investment bank Dillon, Read & Co. Inc. and under the Bush I's administration was Assistant Secretary of Housing and Federal Housing Commissioner at the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development...

She too blames alot of our economic woes on the push for globalization...

Why is it that while you are calling for North American solidarity and calls to protect North American industries I hear the call from down south and its calling for the solidarity and protection of American jobs.

I'm all for the protection of our jobs, Canadian ones. Seems to me a lot of them are derived from non-North American companies as often as not and money going to the US is no different then any other country in the long run.

Using what arguments? How has it affected our economies? You are throwing around some very vague concepts around without actually supporting any of it. Globalization has been criticized since it really took off in the 1990's. These people are nothing new, they are just adapting old arguments to new conditions.

And you can honestly say the standard of living for the average North American family has improved since 1990?

I think not...

I think middle classes in NA were much better off in the 1960's... AND it has nothing to do with the fact the Make Me Laughs last won the Cup in the 1960's (1967)...

I would say so. People have more disposable income, better wages, and benefits then they did back then. Why do you think it was so much better then?

Are you really this pathetic and have so little to offer to the discussion that you have to bring hockey into a debate on economics? Grow up.

Being a Maple Leafs fan, I thought that you'd have a better sense of humor.

Sorry..it was my feeble attempt to interject some humour... No harm meant to Make Beliefs fans....

You sound like one of those disgruntled Leafs fans who post on the Canchat forum at DSLReports.com.... Just can't take a joke, eh... :D :D :D

This whole globalization and global warming hysteria is the brainchild of the most evil person on the planet... Maurice Strong....

I am all for good old fashioned mud-slinging between rival hockey teams but there are threads for that and you have a tendency to just randomly inject it places when you have nothing else to offer.
