This could be a classic paper tiger scenario where a terminally weak opponent is hiding behind an intense propaganda bombardment and behind really lazy Western media reporting that doesn't bother to go to the depths of any issue anymore. If a small economic nidge from South Korea is allegedly all that it would take to topple this sickening regime then this whole situation looks more and more like the same one that existed in Romania back in 1989.

Maybe a better example would be Germany.

The West Germans have spent billions fixing the East, and they're not done yet.

The South will be paying for decades.

I'm not sure the Chinese will be game for this though.

This explains why SK never really wants to end this stalemate because they know it will be like German unification... only much worse for them economically. The drain on keeping a large standing army is a cheap down payment as compared to jump starting the economy of a Stalinist dictatorship that will certainly stall and kill their own economy without decades and billions in aid from outside sources. That sort of dependency is not something they would like to even think about.

Yeah. I've been getting the impression over the last couple of years that China ain't been too thrilled with NK.

South Korea isn't overly interested in absorbing the North Korean economy as it would cost a fortune and absorbing millions of refugees would very likely destroy the South Korean economy. The Chinese certainly aren't interested in absorbing North Korean's economic woes or refugees going there.

I think you might be right in that the Chinese would sooner like to see them kill each other and sell weapons to both sides if possible as it would be great for business.

I don't think the Japanese would be heart broken either.

I'm not sure what the Americans would do. Some of the Presidents have done some very stupid things.

One thing this incident (among others) has accomplished is to sour the SK public on trying to build bridges with NK. I think that's a good thing - trying to appease Dickhead just plays his game.

Let the Chinese take care of NK - they're the ones using it as a proxy to cause trouble. If the Chinese really didn't agree with what NK is doing, it would end tomorrow.

Sounds like China is double checking the facts.

But no one seems to want NK to fall.

Kim's a dying man. He's literally running on fumes, so the reprecussions of his insane acts are likely not that important to him. The delusional little shit would likely be proud to go down in history as the person who rebooted the Korean Civil War.

I think that is EXACTLY what is going on.

What worries me further, is this could also be part and parcel of some prestidigitation. Distract with this act, while something else gets missed. We know Kim works with and sells things to terrorist groups.

Well, he was recalled to China earlier this month. No doubt an after action report. I think if he had gone rouge he would never have made it back home.
