Why do people continue to use social media? No matter what platform you use seems to just seems to be a problem. Reminds me of the talking we all got about our loved ones on a UN tour only writing the good stuff. One of the wives phoned the CO and cried at him about her husband doing non deployment stuff and if he wasn’t needed there to send him home cause she needed him! Lots of eye rolls for that meeting. It took years to hear about the bad shit that happened and I have no idea if I know it all.

Because it's still useful. I still use FB because I can keep up with friends I don't have time for day to day or if they live a ways away.

But I also try to use it sparingly. I rarely post anything and I rarely comment. The same is true for me on the social media sites I use, Reddit and Twitter.

Facebook's main evil is that they have monetized an incentivized dischord. Their algorithms promote inflammatory and divisive posts and Zuckerbot doesn't care because it makes him money.

That sounds useful. I need could be bothered to set up an account then after the great family Facebook war of 2010 (that still is being felt). I really don’t want the headache. That's where it backfired for me. I wanted them to call. Instead of reading those idiotic memes full of lies, and spending hours pissing them off while you explain why it's wrong, I wanted to go out for coffee like we used to and talk.

But they would rather participate in flame wars, than intelligent discourse. So I don't talk to them anymore.

I miss going for out for coffee and talking. I have a few that call, my siblings text. The world is weird.

I have never done facebook, even when I got ragged on by people, especially when it first got going.

All I could think about when I heard about this outage was the meltdown some might have been going through.

My kid has broken off with best friend since she was 2 over FB posts.
She's had bowel surgery delayed for over 8 weeks because of anti-vax Covid cases tying up the hospital. Can't blamer her. who'd want to suffer in pain and listen to someone who's causing it complain about their fucking rights?
