Seems about right.

She plans to appeal the driving ban - that's the most important part of the sentence.

I think the whole sentence is ridiculous and she should appeal every part of it. There's been less harsh sentences given to multiple impaired drivers who have killed people. This was a tragic accident caused not by intent nor drunkenness or criminal activity.

This may seem cold but I don't see why she should be held responsible for the death of a reckless driver and his passenger. Her actions warrant their own response, granted, but the motorcyclist was responsible for his and his daughter's deaths. If he hadn't been speeding both he and his daughter would be alive today. They may have even avoided the collision and no one would even know about this.

Agreed. Usually the person is charged with following too close as well.

In retrospect, next time, just kill the ducks! :(

I agree with you all, when "impaired driving causing death" for smoking weed then driving results in house arrest; this is far less serious than that and deserves a less harsh sentence.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions as this lady just found out. What an utter load of crap. A fine and reasonable driving suspension would have been more appropriate especially considering that the supposed victims in this case should be considered blameworthy for at least, part of the accident.

It was negligent as fuck, which is all it needs to be for a conviction.

Let us know what you think after you get a drivers licence and own a car.

They're locking her up for being a Ditz. That's the Canadian equivalent of "Hooliganism", I guess.

Public_Domain Public_Domain:
I'm honestly somewhat surprised by the near unanimous position of members here in pardoning this woman for parking her car on the highway.

Yeah, yeah, good intentions. I feel she was criminally negligent. When I've needed to piss, one thing we never fuckign did was stop in the middle of a fucking highway, because people die that way. One of the most basic concepts I was ever taught... Hell, I hear people get tickets for driving too slow mainly because of how much of a risk these people pose to other drivers.

This woman stopped dead in a highway to do a little Elizabeth May work and ended up causing the criminally negligent deaths of a father and his teenage daughter.

The jail sentence is far too short and her driving ban is well deserved.

That said, stoners and drunks who kill people should absolutely not get off on it.

Not only that, but she stopped in the left lane. It's been a couple of times I've nearly crashed in the back of a car driven by a "mericun' stopped in the middle of the Sea to Sky highway so they can take pictures. It's a very curvy highway, no way you can see them up ahead.

She broke the law, her actions led to the death of two people. She got off lucky. I don't think she should get more jail time, but I sure hope her 10 year license suspension remains in place.

Nah, the guy that plowed into her was speeding and following too close. If her flashers were on, he's guilty of driving without due care and attention too.
She's guilty of stopping in a no stopping zone. 100 hrs of community service and 6 mos. suspension at most.
