$1:
"Remember that in September 1995, sovereignty was at 38 per cent," he said. "We finished at 49.4, 30 days after."

49.9 Isn't that awfully close to a majority ?

I believe it was a lot further from being a majority if all the scrutineers and other vote officials weren't bloc appointees. From the stories I've heard there was enough hanky-panky to embarrass a cuban election official

Yup...
I lived in a small rural village and out of 240 voters, 120 voted Yes, 120 No.

But I think that general support for independance has gone steadily down since.
I don't see a chance in hell of this going through.

Please do break away, you will lessen the economic burden on the rest of the country and we no longer have to listen to the whining and complaining that is coming from Quebec.

Also: the movement is in the 30-40% area from one survey, they also now require a 'clear majority'

lol @ Duceppe.

He really needs to get to a nursing home for the elderly. He's becoming a real joke.

Please fellow Canadians, don't think we are like him.

(edit: it's not "I" but "He"... lost in translation...)

You might want to think that one out a little more. The separation of any province from Canada would have disasterous effects on the economy and cause havoc on the world stage. It is not good for Canada or Québec. Even the constant saber rattling of the PQ effects credit and bond ratings. Canada would suffer more than you think. And Québec, well it would just end up a poverty stricken republic

"There's more bilingualism in Quebec than anywhere else in the rest of Canada.... We're not against the English language, and there's no danger of English disappearing in North America."

Oh yes you are hypocrite.

No, they're proposing that they build a wall around Quebec. I'm all for using federal tax dollars for that project, provided the walls are water-tight.

Biggest problem with letting Quebec go is that half of our heavy industry is there.
