I think most people know my feelings on roadside memorials and the like... but to trash one is pretty low.

I too, think that 'roadside memorials' should only be allowed for a week or so. In fact, Edmonton has a time limit on them.

Unless I misunderstand, this memorial was in the Mom's own yard. 'Desecration' is a fitting word for what was done, but I cannot think of any description for the perpetrator/s.

Am I the only one who thinks something like this belongs in the backyard or the house? Somewhere a little more private and personal?

Yup.

It was her son, I think it is up to her how private and personal she would want it to be. Or is your opinion out of sight out of mind?

Unmarked graves and no memorials?
Out of sight, out of mind?

Or maybe we should all erect such memorials on our front lawns?

Well if you are ever unfortunate enough to have the cards dealt to you that she had to her, that would be your right to do, after all her son wore a uniform and was prepared to defend that right.

Yes, everyonew grieves differently... but after 2 years, surely it's time to be a little more "private" about it.

Or maybe we should all erect such memorials on our front lawns?
