Unreal. Another mass shooting. $1: A gunman in body armour opened fire early Sunday in a popular entertainment district in Dayton, Ohio, killing nine people, including his sister, and wounded dozens of others before he was quickly slain by police, city officials said.
Connor Betts, 24, was killed by police less than a minute after he started shooting a .223-calibre rifle in the streets of Dayton's historic Oregon District about 1 a.m. in the second U.S. mass shooting in less than 24 hours. Police haven't released further information about Betts or publicly discussed a motive.
His 22-year-old sister Megan, the youngest of the dead, were all killed in the same area, police said. The other men and women who were killed ranged in age from 25 to 57.
Since he is dead we won't know if his sister was a specific target of his or if she just happened to be there. Or, perhaps we'll find out once the details of the investigation are released.

THank God that today is not the time to talk about gun control. Yesterday wasn't either. Nor will tomorrow be.

Nope. There's no point in it. It won't change a damn thing.

What they need is more guns.

herbie herbie: THank God that today is not the time to talk about gun control. Yesterday wasn't either. Nor will tomorrow be. Feel free to explain how you intend to control weapons in a country that boasts 40 million more guns than there are people? I'm sorry but, your sarcasm is lost on reality.

It's not a gun problem, it's a mentality problem.
Americans are still stuck in the wild west, where guns solve everything.

Universal background checks Assault weapons ban Waiting periods Close gun show and online sales loopholes Gun buyback programs.
These are all good starting places for effective gun control.

You know that as soon as you talk about "gun control", the average American gun owner's reaction is "they'll take my guns over my dead body".

I have no problem with some forms of gun control but it's only one part of the solution. You can only control the guns you have control over which means, there are still going to be millions of illegal weapons out of your reach that these mentally deficient assholes have access to.
But how about this. Given that these murderous little animals have, over the past 25 years with few exceptions been warped teens, who always seem to have radical or abnormal tendencies why don't we shut down the internet and take all the kids phones away from them so they can't communicate, form communities, share notes, give information on where and how to acquire weapons and egg each other on. As a plus, what works by shutting down the internet to teenagers would also have a negative effect on terrorism which uses the same type of information sharing to get the same results.
Or, maybe we could just start raising our children better so they'd have some respect, discipline and purpose in life rather than a sense of entitlement and an unrelenting anger against everything they deem as unfair to them? Then, when reality slaps these kids in the face they'd just might be able to accept it rather than turning into homicidal thugs.
But my guess is that these solutions have about as much chance of happening as getting guns under control in the states especially since the internet is used by everyday normal people and you wouldn't want to punish them for the sins of a few.

Gun Control at is point is like closing the gate after all the horses have run out. In this regard the States are utterly broken. I see no viable solution to this problem.

Freakinoldguy Freakinoldguy: I have no problem with some forms of gun control but it's only one part of the solution. You can only control the guns you have control over which means, there are still going to be millions of illegal weapons out of your reach that these mentally deficient assholes have access to. We have control over every gun manufactured, since they are all made legally by a properly accredited manufacturer for an ostensibly legal purpose . We also have control over every gun legally imported and sold and possessed. Every illegal gun in the hands of a criminal was once a legal gun that we once controlled. There have been exactly zero mass shootings with homemade guns and AFAIK none or few were with smuggled guns.

$1: Connor Betts was named by police as the body armor-wearing, masked gunman who fatally shot at least 9 people, including his own sister, a tragedy that left at least 27 more injured, in a popular bar and restaurant district in Dayton, Ohio.
Betts was 24 and from Bellbrook, Ohio. Witnesses said he was wearing all black when he opened fire. Betts was killed by police, with six officers firing at least one round, and officials said the carnage might have been even worse were it not for their quick response.
On social media, the suspect’s biography started to emerge. On his Twitter page, reviewed by Heavy, he described himself as “he/him / anime fan / metalhead / leftist / i’m going to hell and i’m not coming back.” He wrote on Twitter that he would happily vote for Democrat Elizabeth Warren, praised Satan, was upset about the 2016 presidential election results, and added, “I want socialism, and i’ll not wait for the idiots to finally come round to understanding.” The Greene County Board of Elections lists his party as “Dem.” You can read a roundup of his tweets – which also dealt with Parkland, Florida and 9/11 – here and later in this article. https://heavy.com/news/2019/08/connor-betts/

Heavy says this tweet on the 2016 election is from Betts:

It's also alleged he retweeted this on his purported Twitter account: They're talking about that old antifa guy who was shot after attacking an ICE facility with an incendiary device. I believe he also had a gun.
